Wasn’t planning on doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen.

    Reviewed by: Diana H. on

    Comment:

After eagerly waiting our family vacation,I was presented with the option to cancel or do without a dishwasher for our week . Obviously,we didn?t have the option of canceling for 11 people at the last minute. We were told that the repair/ part would arrive that Friday,if we didn?t mind the intrusion. Friday came and went with no part or repair. While I waited I cleaned and organized the mishmash of kitchenware. No big pots in the advertised gourmet kitchen. Dirty wooden spoons and utensils pushed in the linen drawer. The grill was unusable.. Covered with food and grease and no propane. After much complaining, the caretaker came with propane and cleaned the grill as well. The mosquitoes were horrible so We had to buy foggers for the deck in order to sit outside. Bought firewood, because we didn?t bring an axe or chainsaw to cut our own. Which you must have to do,because they didn?t supply any as said. This is a unique property, needs some grooming inside and out. Very disappointing to find the trails overgrown, the pond considered toxic, and no waste facility for trash or recycling. Communication between the owners and caretaker was not good. . The caretaker showed up a day early wanting to know why we were still there.,said our contract was up the day before. We showed him the email with dates. Then he and his two big dogs left. The beds in the lower level need some updating. Futons for adults aren?t the most comfortable. Thank heaven for the washer and dryer, because there were only 9 bath towels, three hand towels and 9 washcloths for all of us to use. Advertising for up to 12 or more people is great, just didn?t expect to need to wash towels everyday. Besides washing dishes without a dish rack. We used the oven racks and beach towels to dry the dishes on. I?ve had worse and I?ve had much better vacations. Thank heaven for state parks,Friday fish fries,Spotted cow and bowling and family game nights. We will be elsewhere in the US next year. Thank you Northwoods for your efforts.

    Manager's Response:
Diana, the homeowner would like to pass along the following message:
"We're very sorry about the inconvenience the dishwasher repair caused. As you can imagine, the delivery of items in rural areas can occasionally be a challenge. In regards to the pond, note the pond is not toxic, is very beautiful, and is home to a variety of wildlife. It is great for paddle boating, which is provided/available for use, or kayaking (not provided). Due to the naturally dark water, lack of shoreline, and a quick drop off, we do not allow swimming." Best, the Evolve Team

Loved the location. The property needs a handyman to go through and fix a few things, but otherwise it's a great house and we didn't have any real problems. I'm not sure if the listing talks about this or not, but I guess the pond is toxic and you can't swim in it. Loved the covered deck and back deck. Beautiful view of trees and pond. Lots of good sleeping areas and 2 different really nice family areas to hang out. Kitchen is totally open to everything, which always is a plus.

The cabin was very beautiful and had all the amenities we needed for a relaxing and fun family ski trip. The cabin was about 35 minutes from Granite Peak, which we went to two days. The only real negative was the King bed upstairs was harder than a rock, so I would recommend bringing an air mattress (there is plenty of room for one in the upstairs bedroom), unless you enjoy sleeping on a piece of plywood. The other negative was there were no railings for the bunk beds (top bunks), so we could not utilize those two beds as we were afraid people would fall out. Other than the few minor sleeping arrangement negatives, the house was absolutely beautiful. I would love to stay there again in the future.

There was a real fireplace so my dad stayed busy tending to the fire with the wood they provided along with some wood we brought along. Rustic and modern at the same time. The interior took our breath away. Gorgeous!!! It's a hunter's cabin, but it is functional for so much more than that. You can enjoy relaxing on the upper level watching the deer nibbling on the apples in the backyard. Play foosball in the basement. Light a fire in the fire pit and listen to the evening woodland chatter. We did all of this and more. It's like a home away from home. The yard (back and side) are not as big as it might appear in the pictures but that's not really a bad thing, just a note to potential future guests who may be wondering. We didn't spend as much time outside as we would have liked, mostly due to the bugs and mosquitoes, something we probably should have expected considering the woods and pond. The AC worked just fine and kept us cool. The side doors were a bit tricky to figure out how to lock at first, but we figured it out. The Wi-Fi, something every review should have notes on, was decent. There was 10 of us and most of us were probably browsing social media or youtube often. We also streamed Netflix and Youtube and it worked fine. Speeds were roughly 5Mbits/s down and I forgot what upload speeds were, it appeared to be a first tier package of ADSL. Overall, a great experience. Summer or winter, it would be a great place to hang out! Thank you for having us!

    Beautiful cabin

This was a very relaxing place. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was very clean and it had all the essentials. The reason I am giving this four stars instead of five is because we had small children with and there wasn't much for them to do. We would definitely consider this place again as an adult relaxing getaway. Reviewer location Waterloo

    Great space to spread out

We stayed in early June, great house to hang out in, play games, and eat. The mosquitos were awful and could have carried us away, we stayed inside. Enough space to have some time away from everyone else and still enough to be together too.

Luxury cabin with great trails nearby that somehow has both a 'wow' big open space factor as well as a cozy atmosphere. Huge bathtub, foosball downstairs, and an open layout so you can cook and enjoy the fireplace / view of the pond. Will be back for sure!
