  • Beautiful views and great location but very unclean, Evolve was great to work with regarding the issues. Definitely not a luxury stay.

    1/5

We reviewed the ratings prior to booking, the mistake we made is that most reviews only speak of the outdoor property and activities and location. Based on the photos and description, we believed this stay would live up to its luxury living claim.

We arrived at 9:30 pm after a long day of travel only to find one of the bedrooms smelling musty, multiple dead bugs along the baseboards, bedding that appeared stained and dirty, ceiling tiles which is probably where the musty smell came from with large discolored spots. The sheets are old and tattered like we had not seen since staying in a poverty area in Costa Rica on a mission trip. The flatware tray was filled with old food which made us question if other dishes were dirty as well. We loaded up the dishwasher with as much as we could that night. The children that were supposed to have the bunk bed room slept in the master bedroom because the loft sofas are stained and there was leftover garbage on the floor- clearly never cleaned, therefore, we were displaced to couches to avoid the dead bug dirty bedroom. I contacted the guest contact immediately. One of the children in the other downstairs bedroom got an asthma attack, fortunately did not need an emergency room visit. Upon further inspection of that room the curtains had active mold growing on them. Besides the above cleanliness issues, there was dirt and hair throughout the house and I won't bore you with the additional details. We packed up everything and left as soon as we could that day. the longer we were there the more dirt and soiled items we found. The guest contact who happened to be the owner was extremely defensive, said they had painted the stains in the ceiling and that it wasn't mold, she claimed the pictures I sent her only showed one dead spider, she said bay living has musty smelling rooms and that she had just been in the home 2 days earlier bleaching the floors. She denied a mold problem, but one would have to wonder why floors are bleached if there isn't a problem and what happened to cleaning the dead bug room?

Since the check out instructions only ask that sheets are removed from the beds and seeing the stains, one would have to assume blankets and comforters are not washed between guests which would testify to why they appeared dirty.

On a positive note, the Evolve and Marriott representatives were very empathetic and supportive in resolving the cancellation of our stay.

We did find a beautiful classic and clean New England home not far from the location with a kind and responsive and responsible owner.

Great property great location great vacation. Are multi generational family of eight enjoyed our stay at this property very much. the house has been delightfully well-kept and perfectly furnished with everything that we could imagine. we were able to kayak some in the bay and we had easy access to nearby restaurants and some days at Acadia national park. Some great memories were made this week.

Great waterfront location that allowed for easy access to Acadia and Schoodic Point. Our kids had a blast by the water and hanging out in the loft. Would 100% rent again.

  • Amazing Spot!

    5/5

Stayed Sunday to Saturday. Nine adults, very comfortable. Was worried about having no A/C but the owner supplied plenty of tower fans and we were very comfortable. Constant breeze off bay. Kayaks made the trip! (fyi-plenty of life jackets). We spent hours kayaking and saw so many seals, porpoise, bald eagles, and other birds. At low tide we could kayak straight across to a tiny island and explore. Big yard to play cornhole and spike ball (we brought those with us). Boys played supplied Wii games. Wooden whale statue in yard made for nice family photo. Amazing views from every room! Acadia and Bar Harbor were close enough for us to go enjoy. Recommend Stewman’s and Testa for dinner - both excellent. Route 66 Restaurant - skip!!! Great road-side lunch can be found at Acadia Lobster & BBQ Company. We cooked half the time at the house; the kitchen was well stocked and we found everything we needed and then some. Would definitely go again but would make sure our friends rented sister property right next door. Three tips: bring water shoes (shores very rocky); body bug spray (came in handy at least twice during week); sunblock (especially on legs kayaking).
