  We traveled to Fernandina Beach to celebrate my daughter’s birthday with a short stay. We booked this property because my daughter was bringing friends and the bed situation in this house was just right. My daughter was able to stay with her friends in one bedroom while I had the other bedroom. There was also space in the main part of the house for a queen size air mattress.

  The house was very clean and as pictured in the listing photos so we were happy. We also enjoyed a couple of the features specific to this property. The little fenced in area on one side of the house was great for our dog to be able to be let off leash while she did her business. The separate deck space behind the house was great because I was able to be on the covered back porch in the shade while my daughter and her friends worked on their tans on the lounge chairs in the separate deck area.

  We also appreciated the on-site property manager, Dennis. He was accessible 24/7 and left us his cell number in case we needed anything.

  We were impressed with the location as well because it is directly on the beach and is a short drive from downtown Fernandina as well as newer stores such as Walmart, Publix, fast food, and gas stations, as well as Fort Clinch (great place to hunt for sharks’ teeth and do some biking), a miniature golf place, an ice cream shop, and multiple restaurants.

  We really enjoyed our stay and will keep this house on our list for future visits.

  Host was excellent and the accommodations a perfect cottage and setting for a long weekend !

• Too expensive for the quality

  Based on what we paid, I expected a lot more. While I assume it’s part of the decor, the lamps and the one non ceiling fan were old and some not fully functional. The listing says ceiling fans but there is only one ceiling fan in the living area, none in the bedrooms. We ran out of hot water in the shower in less than 10 minutes and had to wait more than 30 minutes for someone else to take another. Many of the complimentary tolietries were not replenished. There was literally an empty Kleenex box, no tall trash bags, no paper towels and low to no supplies in the other containers throughout the house. Finally the most disappointing part was being on the beach without an ocean view. The listing said oceanfront but I believe that was misleading. It should have said you can’t see the ocean even if you are oceanfront. While I realize the listing description is meant to sell the rental and it was a holiday weekend I feel cheated.
