We love staying at the Gallup House. It is a huge homey space for both large gatherings and peaceful cozy times. The bedrooms are large and comfortable with plenty of bathrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed and the whole house is spotlessly clean and well kept. Host Pete is the best. She even had a Christmas tree and decorations set up for us for our stay over the holidays. It made our time away from home so sweet. A big thanks to Pete and gratitude for this place.
Easy easy check in with Pete! A very beautiful & spacious home with everything we needed for our stay! Plenty of off street parking was a major plus! The only drawbacks we had were that the back door needs to be replaced, the mattresses are super super firm to the point of being uncomfortable, & there's not a couch to lounge on. We loved the binder in the kitchen with ideas for things to do in & around Jefferson & I particularly loved the history of Greene county that the binder had! The Gallup home is located close enough to businesses that we usually walked to where we wanted to go.

Our family enjoyed our time at the Gallup House. My husband was working in the area and this was a great house for our family to stay in. The house is so neat with it's octagon shape and many features like hardwood floors, secret staircase in back, rocking chairs on the front porch, original wood staircase and all the history displayed from the Gallup family. This is located in a friendly, small town with several interesting sights like the bell tower, 1875 woodworking shop, Deal's apple orchard, etc. We especially loved the blue bedroom with the beautiful quilt on the bed. Lots of natural light from the windows and character with the octagon shape. There were plenty of bathrooms and the large table was great for family dinners.
We were in Iowa for my mother’s memorial. This was a wonderful relaxing place to come back to each evening.

This was an ideal place for our stay in Iowa. The area was quiet and grocery stores were within minutes. The house was beautiful and charming. It's decor suits it perfectly . I loved the huge dining room table and the other furnishings that complemented this historic home. Everything was clean and fresh.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
The home was exactly as described and the manager was friendly and professional. The property was clean and well-maintained. The home is extremely spacious.

Everything was great! Plenty of room for everyone, plenty of bathrooms, house was clean and neighborhood was quite, central heat and air worked great. Only thing i would recommend is a couch and loveseat or sectional and add a Roku or Firestick for the television, not anyplace to crash in the evening and be comfortable, other than that our stay was great!

This is just a lovingly restored house. Having restored an older home of our own I can appreciate all the details and upgrades that went into it. That being said, ALL of the beds were so hard. My 9 and 12 year old kids even mentioned it. And there are no comfy spots to sit - just two uncomfortable chairs and a settee in the living room. It's like the owners stopped at the end of the restoration process and forgot to add in comfortable furnishings for their guests. It also wasn't super clean, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. One shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned at all and had lots of hair and dirt in it (we just didn't use that one). The water pressure rocked though. And the street is calm and quiet. We had family in the area and spent most of the time at their house enjoying the slow lifestyle of Jefferson.I would stay here again if they cozied up the place a bit and ensured it was much cleaner. If you have back problems, look elsewhere or check with the owner's to ensure new mattresses and furniture have been secured.Property manager friendly, accessible and helpful. Not thrilled to use Evolve to book - they have a zero cancellation policy which is always dicey when booking vacations. All in all, it had it pros and cons and we enjoyed the history of the house.

Janet, we're glad that you appreciated many features of this property. However, we're sorry that some aspects of your stay fell short of expectations. While bed comfort is very subjective and personal, we're sorry they weren't to your liking. We apologize for any cleanliness inconveniences, and we have relayed your experience to the homeowner so we can ensure this doesn't occur for future guests. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope to have the chance to travel with you again! Best, the Evolve Team
We stayed at the Gallup House in Jefferson, IA. It's out of the way and in a small town, but it's a large property and it was big enough for three couples. The house itself is beautiful with plenty of historic charm and certain renovated features. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there, but there was one major issue: we kept finding some dead insects (mostly roaches?) throughout our stay. For those who care, the three full bathrooms do not have locks. There is WiFi there even though it is not listed for some reason. We also found hangers, an iron, and detergent for use; all of these things are also not mentioned in the listing and would have been helpful to know beforehand. This is a good place to stay for a family or group if the bug problem is resolved and if you don't mind driving about an hour to get to the nearest city.

Homeowner Response -
Thank you for the feedback. We are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay,
but do apologize for the issues that you experienced, and we will forward
your feedback to the homeowner so that they can make any necessary
adjustments. Please note that this property is in a rural area, and the
homeowner does treat the home for the insects that are local to the area.
Thanks again for your feedback.
