This place is almost perfect. Elaine and Carter, the hosts, are warm and wonderful. We stayed at this home during the first stop of our honeymoon on Big Island. One thing to keep in mind is that, if you're arriving in Kailua-Kona, this location is a 2 hour drive from the airport. Once we arrived in Volcano, Elaine and Carter presented us with champagne as we'd be there to ring in the new year. This was just one of the many wonderful aspects of this rental in addition to friendly advice of local eats (there are only a few options in Volcano, all others are 30min+ in Hilo), quirky chickens on the property, open communication (Elaine responds quickly to text), and comfortable accommodations (Elaine was ready to freshen up our accommodations at our request and dry towels as Volcano's atmosphere keeps things damp). There is a fridge (came in handy when purchasing fresh local fruit), a microwave, a Keurig with Kona coffee pods, any cutlery you may need, and complementary macadamia nuts – all a very nice, welcoming touch. That said, this location is small and probably not fit for everyone. The bathroom is semi-private with walls not extending to the ceiling which was even a tad uncomfortable for newlyweds like ourselves. This is truly a studio, so there is not much area to lounge other than the bed or a tiny table with stools. As there are chickens raised on the property, there is a gate with a code required for entry – I can't tell you how many times we forgot to unlock the gate before our departure, so going in and out isn't exactly a quick endeavor. The location, in Volcano, is close to the National Park but otherwise in a bit of a desolate, very rainy area. During our stay in January, it was raining almost every morning (they had umbrellas, if you haven't prepared) with cool temps. Restaurant options in the area are limited and many locations had some restrictive hours. The wifi can be spotty at times and there is no TV in the space which, again, made lounging in the space a bit undesirable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this space and loved getting to explore the island. This is a great, unique place for a couple or a single guest, but might not recommend for a family or anyone that doesn't feel *close* with their travel partner. Mahalo, Elaine and Carter!

This was the perfect place to stay for our vacation. You must know it is sleeping and showering only, no kitchen. There is a small frog, microwave and one cup-at-a-time coffee maker (please add half an half versus Coffee Mate). We had planned to visit the Volcano National Park, Pahoa, black sand beaches and Hilo on a very short timeline so this was the ideal place. You will need to drive to eat - there are a couple of good places in Volcano (five minute drive) and then your next choice is Hilo which is a 20 to 30 minute drive. The owners are very helpful and you feel completely safe as the property is gated. The beautiful redwood you see in the photo is just incredible. The cabin is spotless, well constructed and tastefully designed.
