    Very cozy, and lovely cabin!

    Reviewed by: Rafael on

My husband and I decided to get the cabin in Cloudcroft for Thankgiving. Being that one of our sons is stationed at Holloman AFB, and was recently married we'd spend the Holiday there together. I must say that the stay was exactly how I dreamed it to be. Very cozy, and warm with all the amenities any one could ask for. Beautiful view, and with plenty of room. Definitely a must while in the mountains. Thank you very much... We hope to be back someday!

    Clean, beautiful house

    Reviewed by: Sara H. on

We enjoyed our stay at the house overall. The description of the house is accurate and it was just as I had expected. It was very, very clean and had things like dish soap and hand soap, however no toiletries so bring some body soap, shampoo, etc... The reason for the 3 star review is because of the master bedroom king bed. It is an old innerspring mattress that has seen better days. There are two body-sized divots on both sides which killed mine and my husband?s backs. It was really disappointing because we were putting in a lot of miles hiking and chasing our 2 year old and just wanted a good night?s sleep. We would love to return next summer if the bed is replaced :-)

Sara, thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the home overall and we appreciate your feedback on the mattresses. We understand that mattress preferences vary from person to person and apologize that this one was not to your liking! The homeowner let us know that the mattress is less than two years old and has never received any complaints. Thank you for letting us know so we can create five-star experiences going forward! Very clean, comfortable and uncluttered home. All little details are thought through: kitchenware, towels, soap, cleaning supplies, extra bedding. Gorgeous view of the valley, lots of sunlight, comfortable chairs on the deck to have your coffee while listening to silence and watching the sun rise. Lots of day trips in the area, close to town but very private. This is our second stay, looking forward to coming back again!

The cabin has a great floor plan that is perfect for a family. It was very clean and comfortable. it has all the amenities you need for a good vacation. I have a few suggestions: first and foremost, renters need to be warned about the driveway. It is very steep and precarious. Backing out is difficult to say the least. Anyone with health problems Will have a hard time getting to the cabin. managers need to check items more closely. Television remote had bad batteries. We were happy to find a Nintendo Wii but it also had old batteries which we purchased. The butane lighters did not work. There was only one trash bag in the cabin. it would help to have real curtains or blinds in the master bedroom to allow sleeping late. otherwise, the cabin is beautiful and the view from the deck is awesome. You will likely need to drive a bit to see a lot of wildlife. we would absolutely stay here again but the driveway would make me think twice.

It was so clean! The only thing I would have to comment on is the brooms and vacuum, and the driveway. The dust pans were broke and I had to clean the vacuum out it was so full of yuck. The incline was very steep and my 15 passenger van had a very hard time getting up the driveway. We would not have been able to if it was icy. I did not see that on the VRBO when renting this specific cabin. But it all worked out. Thankful they have a washer! I had to do some wash because of the snow. Overall, we had a great stay! *Originally posted on Homeaway/VRBO for a stay in December 2016

    Beautiful, modern cabin.

    Reviewed by: Anthony R. on

We arrived to find our cabin had already been opened and ready for us. We walked in to find a beautiful, updated cabin. The cabin was clean and didn't smell dusty and dingy like some cabins tend to do. We were very pleased.

CONS: The cabin offers 4 beds, 3 of which we used. All 3 beds were HORRENDOUS. They are the thinnest, cheapest mattresses money could buy. We woke up every morning in utter pain. We even contemplated checking out a day early just avoid having to sleep on the beds again. There was a pregnant guest who slept in the King Size and had such a hard time with that bed. The couches (where all the movie watching takes place) were not comfortable either and has fabrics that poke through the couch and poke and stab you. There's a nice big flat screen teen mounted on the wall, however, no dvd player in the main "family room". We had to plug in the Playstation from upstairs. There's huge beautiful windows that are not covered and happen to be opposite tv. Forget watching tv in the day, the glare is too much. You can't even enjoy tv or an early movie. Also, please note that you'll need a 4 wheel drive to get up the drive way. It's short but very steep and there's burned tire marks on the drive way from previous guests. Our tires (not 4x4) are thinned out because of the driveway. Also, you'll need to stop at Walmart in Alamogordo to buy groceries, we learned the hard way. There's no grocery store up here and eating out gets really expensive. The cabin offers a beautiful kitchen to cook in. The cabin really was beautiful. Not secluded at all as we were under the impression from description which is what we were looking for. The cabin is right next to a bunch of other cabins so there was no exploring the wilderness from our cabin. Would have given more stars if the beds were at least half way decent.

All in all I'd recommend staying here. Hopefully the owners will invest in some new beds because that is enough to turn people away for a second visit and invest in some window tinting or curtains. If your looking for a clean, modern, cozy cabin near the town, this is your place!

    Manager Response:
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay, especially the beauty of the cabin. We appreciate your feedback regarding the uncomfortable mattresses and couches, we have passed this along to the homeowner. We have been informed that higher quality beds were a recent installment to the property. Regarding the grocery store, you are correct that there is not a large grocery store in town, however the local gas station has a convenience store with some staple groceries! Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to assist you in your future travels!

Last get away for the summer. Couldn't have asked for more. Took our two grown daughters and enjoyed an amazing time together. Brought our own cookout supplies for grilling but everything else was provided. High up the mountain (8800 feet) the views were amazing. The cabin was fantastic and just as described. The balcony was our favorite spot. Hours of endless views, birds, sunsets and sunrises. We even saw some deer cross the road one evening. We left with two things in mind, (1) we wish we could have stayed longer, and (2) we cannot wait to return again.

I reserved this cabin for my honeymoon with my new hubby. It was a beautiful rental! The view from the living area was outstanding. You could see all the trees and the sun hits it just right in the morning. It's extremely quiet and peaceful with a great look at the stars from the porch at night, and the fireplace makes it perfectly cozy. It's a convenient location with a short drive to cloudcroft and a safe place to go for a leisurely stroll. It has a fully equipped kitchen, so it's really easy to prepare meals in if you so desire.

The cabin is easy to find, though parking is steep. There are several steps to get to the front door, but it isn't terrible. The cabin is beautiful! I appreciate that it was SOOO clean! It's beautifully decorated & the deck is perfect for a morning breakfast, or evening cookout. The Windows and view are breathtaking. We have a 1 year old so I appreciate that there was a baby gate in the storage closet. Also, the washer and dryer added to my peace of mind in case the little one got his clothes dirty. Upon entering we immediately Facetimed with our family to show them the lovely cabin- it was that pretty!! The bathrooms were spacious and clean. There were NEW rolls of toilet paper and paper towels, as well as new dish soap and hand soap! Those little touches make a difference! The bedrooms were just the right size. Next time we visit we plan on going with a few more folks as we (family of 3) didn't make use of the entire cabin.

We was very pleased with this rental. I like how they had every thing ready upon arivval no time wasted having to stop by an office and check in, just like walking into your own home. The home was very clean and looked as if we was the first to stay in. Enjoyed the gas grill only issue was the bottle was already nearly empty upon our arrive and I ran out of propane in the middle of grilling. Other than that everything went very well. Would definitely return to this rental. The wife is already talking about our next trip.

    Beautiful Mountain Home

    Reviewed by: Ashleigh B. on

The pictures and description of the property are very accurate. This lovely home is very cozy and situated on the mountain in such a way that you get an INCREDIBLE view. However, with this incredible view, comes the bright and shiny early morning sun, which can be avoided in one of the bedrooms if you like to sleep in. The house sleeps eight, but there are only two bedrooms, so that should be kept in mind when making sleeping arrangements. My husband and I rented the house with our seven year old daughter and she loved the upstairs. She had her own bedroom, bathroom and living area upstairs complete with video games (the master and en suite as well as another half bath are downstairs). She loved that she could watch Disney on her TV while we watched football downstairs. While others complain about the lack of Wifi, I loved that I was forced to unplug from everything. Sitting on the deck listening to and watching the birds during the day and stargazing at night (the stars are AMAZING there) was incredibly peaceful, especially without the constant dinging of the phone when emails, etc. come through. The neat thing about the house being situated where it is, you can sit and enjoy the quiet, almost as if you are in the middle of nowhere, but be super close to all the shopping on Burro St. or golf at The Lodge. The Family Dollar and Allsups are the closest thing you'll get to a grocery store, so it's a good idea to stock up before getting to Cloudcroft if you're planning on cooking. Although the drive to the house isn't bad, the driveway is incredibly steep. If there is much snow, you would need a 4x4 to get up the driveway. Also, for anyone with disabilities or breathing issues, there is pretty good climb up the stairs to get from the car to the house. You definitely get your workout in for the day!

Agreed with comments of the other reviewers - wifi and grocery shopping. The pictures gave a very accurate representation of the place. We felt like we were the first to ever rent the place because everything was so new and up to date. Clouldcroft is a very laid back town we found. That being said, there is not a lot to do there. I enjoyed the hiking and shops. We also discovered that, in July, there are afternoon showers. Suggestion: do activities in the mornings - early!

For older vacationers or individuals with mobility challenges you might consider a house with street level access rather than stairs, but for us it was perfect. Local management was very responsive and I'd rent it again in a minute.
