While this is a beautiful home in a gorgeous location, there are a few things potential guests should be aware of: 1. The road that leads to the home is narrow (read wide enough for one vehicle yet two way - thankfully there were no exceptions to the general morning outflow, evening inflow during our stay), gravel with pretty good inclines and turns (read I wouldn't want to drive it in the rain or snow without 4WD for sure - and my husband from MT agrees). 2. It is infested with wasps and ladybugs. The office was responsive but having 50+ wasps INSIDE on day number one, alive and thriving is unacceptable (as is being left with a water vacuum and wasp spray because continuing maintenance was necessary). 3. Don't count on the hot tub. We were told the cover blew off in the wind the day before and the debris caused them to empty and refill it. But the breaker tripped in under a minute every time it was reset so it never heated up. 4. It is, in general, lacking in the simple niceties and freshness that could go a long way. For this price point, other conditions aside, we would still be disappointed and our return business would not be earned. It has a lot of potential but...???

Matt, thank you for your review. The homeowner has asked us to pass along the following response:
"So sorry that your stay was anything less than delightful. Certainly, we are being swamped by insects right now, and the crews are working diligently to control them. When the weather suddenly turns cooler, the insects are looking for warmth, and they love the light that cabins like Southern Comfort bring in due to all the windows. When we do kill the bugs, the guests complain about the dead bugs, so it's certainly a challenge. We are treating twice weekly now and sweeping twice before guests arrive. We regret that your stay happened to be at the time of year when this happens. Our crew says this has been the worst year so far. Mother Nature is not kind sometimes. We have this warning in our policy on our website, but your complaint has convinced me that we need to include it the descriptions on all websites where we advertise. For guests not used to the remoteness of the natural area, it can be an unexpected issue.
The hot tub problem was the pump, not the cover blowing away. That's why the breaker tripped. To repair it, the engineer would have had to spend a lot of time at the cabin draining it, cleaning it, replacing the pump, refilling, etc. and he didn't want to disturb your privacy during your stay. We do our utmost to keep those hot tubs up and running, but we can't guarantee them. That's why we have the disclaimer in our rental agreement. If we had had an open cabin, we would have offered a move to it and helped you move, but none were available that weekend.
We do appreciate all feedback, so we can be sure we are doing our best for our guests. Thank you for taking the time to let us know."
Best, the Evolve Team

The cabin has potential and is in a good location, but is not clean or well maintained. We would definitely not stay here again.

Holly, we're glad you appreciated this cabin's ideal location, but are sorry to hear certain aspects didn't meet your expectations. This property has never received this kind of feedback previously as the homeowner prioritizes the guest experience and 2-3 hours is spent cleaning the cabin inside and out between each guest stay. We encourage guests to reach out while in residence with any concerns so we have the opportunity to make things tight. There is a sign on the kitchen window with several phone numbers on it for guests to call if they need help or if anything is not up to their expectations. We look forward to this cabin continuing to host many satisfied guests! Best, the Evolve Team
The property is perfect for a group needing 3 bedrooms. Everything was very clean and prepared we would definitely recommend.

Overall the activities we did around the cabin were awesome so the location was great for that. The beds were not comfortable to us and we all are in our 50s and in pretty good shape. Bed sheets were pilly. Several things were falling apart, the slinging door handle was the worst because it made it pretty challenging to open and close.

Terri, thanks for taking the time to leave this review. We are glad to hear that you had a great time overall, but we apologize for the aspects of your stay that fell short of expectations. We've shared your feedback with the homeowners who have never had a complaint about the beds or linens at this popular and well-maintained cabin. As previous reviews will show, the homeowners pride themselves on their quick response time to any and all issues guests might encounter. They would have been more than happy to address your concerns right away had they been made aware. Thank you again for your feedback! Best, the Evolve Team
Our entire family (ages ranging from 5 to 55). just spent 7 days at Southern Comfort at the Cabins of Birch Hollow. The house was amazing. It was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could ever need (with the exception of food and drinks). Plenty of towels, extra blankets, garbage bags, and even laundry detergent were provided. The on-site washer and dryer came in so handy after spending our days hiking the Gorge. The cabins are in a private development, but they are positioned in a way that you feel totally secluded when relaxing in the hot tub or sitting by the fire pit. There is even a private train to hike right in the development. Internet and Satellite worked great all week, even with multiple people logged on at the same time. The house is well laid out and we never felt the least bit cramped. Proximity is a short drive (less than 30 minutes) to Nada Tunnel, the Natural Bridge, and The Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest. Although this is not at all a ?touristy? area, if you love spending time outdoors, you will never get bored. We hiked, rock climbed, zip lined, took scenic rides, and the guys even took a day trip to start the Bourbon Trail. The only complaint we had is that we couldn?t spend more time enjoying this beautiful area! Katy and crew at Birch Hollow were fantastic! We will definitely be returning to this amazing place!
