Explore the outdoor adventures of Alto from ‘Billy the Kid Cabin’, a 1-bedroom, 1-bath vacation rental cabin for 4. While summer brings equestrian activity in Ruidoso just 15 minutes away, the winter months can be spent cruising down Ski Apache, just 30 minutes away. Rather relax at home? The hot tub, deck, barbecue grill, and cozy interior are sure to please!

    -- THE PROPERTY --

Bedroom: King Bed | Living Room: Sofa Bed

As soon as you arrive at this clean, comfortable and rustic cabin in the Lazy Bear Retreat Cabin Rentals community, break open the complimentary bottle of New Mexico wine before beginning to explore this new abode. The framed photos of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett give the cabin its namesake and evoke an early western feel. Whether you're in town to hunt, ski, or hike, you'll enjoy the authentic cabin ambiance of this mountain retreat as well as the amenities and comforts of a modern hotel!

On those summer afternoons, you’ll have the perfect accommodations to entertain outside. Settle on the deck as the designated chef whips up some barbecue, or soak in the hot tub when the sun sets to keep nice and toasty on those chillier evenings.

If you’d rather dine inside, the kitchen comes fully equipped to handle all your favorite recipes. If you’re in the mood for a lazy evening in, bake a tasty treat in the oven and then gather in front of the flat-screen TV to stream Roku.

Come nighttime, step through the bedroom’s barn doors to find your plush queen bed, while the kids make good use of the sleeper sofa for a peaceful night of rest.

    -- THE LOCATION --

Just cruise around Alto for a glimpse of the famous wild mustangs! If that’s not enough horse activity for you, Ruidoso Downs Race Track is just 15 minutes away! Be sure to check out all the shops, restaurants, and casinos in downtown Ruidoso while you’re there.

From hiking and fishing to casinos and museums, there’s truly for something for everyone! Explore White Sand Monument, experience the Wild West culture at Flying J Ranch, or take a hike down Billy the Kid Scenic Trail.

When hunting season is in full swing, be sure to adventure into the stunning southern New Mexico mountains! The property is ideally situated between the Capitan Mountains (Unit 37) and Sierra Blanca (Unit 36), so you can easily access Lincoln National Forest, local ranches, and prime hunting spots!

Come winter, Ski Apache is just 2 miles away! While a top ski, snowboarding, and tubing destination, Ski Apache is great for any time of the year! Warm weather activities include hiking, mountain biking and gondola rides up and down the more than 12,000-foot Sierra Blanca Peak.

The cabin was great, the space and everything, but we had some serious cleaning issues, the kitchen had dirt on it, the bedroom wasn’t ready (vacuum was still plugged in) carpet wasn’t clean at all. We found some dead bugs around the place. We were upset about the place because they charge a cleaning fee, that apparently is for nothing.

My best friend, her son(5) and I spent two days at Billie the Kid cabin! We absolutely loved it, we were greeted by a bottle of New Mexico wine and the cabin was in great shape with a comfy king size bed that fit all 3 of us! Wild horses were roaming when we arrived and they seemed to hang around a lot, the next day we went and bought carrots and they let us hand feed them! The amount of roaming wildlife we saw was unreal! Thanks for the great hospitality & we can’t wait to visit again!

Great location right off HWY 48. The cabin was perfect for the 4 of us and it stayed nice and warm even when we dipped down into the teens. We had wild horses come up to us and we fed them toasted sour dough bread slices! Great trip!
