    PERFECT!

This cute, cozy, clean cottage is comfortable and perfectly located. I felt like I was in a cabin in the woods in this cottage with the large, private yard in a quiet wooded neighborhood - but you are actually just a walk away from the village of Tryon and its shops, stores and restaurants. The porch catches the morning sun and is great for enjoying morning coffee. The biggest plus is the excellent and speedy communication from Carolyn. She answered all questions and more. Communication was clear, timely and helpful. I highly recommend and hope to return again.

Reviews are so important when considering a place to stay for a couple of weeks and based on previous reviews I'm not sure how accurate they are, here are my reviews; First the owner is very responded in answering any questions/concerns and it is a really cute cottage, nicely decorated with comfortable furniture sofa, chairs & bed (which is a big plus). TV works great as well as the wifi. The outside is private & quiet with a nice view of the bamboo forest. Location is great close enough to Asheville and Greenville. The negatives (which I did take pictures) - when we got to the front door we were appalled by the hole in the bottom of the door and did not feel safe at all. As we entered right away we noticed the floors have not been swepted and walking around all the ceiling fans have an inch of dirt on all blades, the inside door to the main bathroom is filthy and needs to be washed and painted. That night we decided to stay in and cook dinner and the stove was sticky, which we had to clean before use, pulled out a sauce pan and a big spoon which still had food on it. There is no chef's knives only a couple of small paring knives which makes it very difficult to prep a meal. We are paying for a cleaning fee and expect it to be clean upon arrival and not having to clean it ourselves. If these issues are taken care of this would be a great place to stay.

    I'm conflicted

    Comment:

I usually love leaving reviews because most of my stays have been wonderful. This was an interesting spot. I don't want to be one of those reviewers that lay on the negatives, so I am just going to leave some facts here - take them as you see fit:

    1. This is a cute house. Nicely decorated, private and peaceful.

    2. It's a very, very old house, but I liked the charm as it reminded me of my great-grandmas place.

    3. The owner responded quickly to my email and seemed very nice.

    4. Windows do not lock and door handles are loose and some are broken. I actually placed a chair in front of a door like you see in the movies. I set several traps in front of several windows in case of intruders because they did not lock. This may be a safe area, but as a single female guest in a secluded spot I could not judge that.

    5. The place was kinda dirty - I found two blonde oreo-type cookies on the floor under chairs. The ceiling fan blades needed a good wipe down along with glass tables next to the downstairs bed, etc.,

    6. The floor structure is concerning. If you slightly jump up and down you can feel the floor moving more than they should. Heck just walking from the bedroom into the bathroom you can feel the dip in the floor. Again, this is an old place.

    7. The bamboo forest is really cool, especially when it is breezy!

    8. The porch and swing are nice for a cup of coffee in the morning.

    9. It's convenient to town and the IGA supermarket.

    10. I found 3 large dead cockroaches during my stay. Granted, this could be due in part to the rainy season, and I get that, but finding cookies on the floor didn't help with the ick factor.

    11. The couch was comfy as well as the downstairs bed.

    12. The shower and bathtub are tiny, but the hot water lasts forever!!!

    13. The appliances are up to date and work great. The kitchen had everything I needed and then some.

I would not stay here again. I would not recommend others stay here, unless you know what you are getting into and you are okay with that. I think many of these issues could be taken care of, easily, by the host and I hope they are. I am still conflicted because for around $80. a night I had a comfortable bed and space to spread out, but I also had some anxiety about staying safe and then there was the ick factor. Both of these can easily be taken care of for future guests.

    Manager's Response:
Rachel, we're sorry to hear your stay fell short. We've shared your feedback with the homeowner who would like to clarify certain aspects of their property for future guests. We can confirm the main doors have locks on them and the windows are painted shut so there's no need for locks. Cleanliness is of the utmost importance and the owner is working diligently to ensure the scenario you encountered won't recur for the next guests. The home is regularly treated for pests, but we apologize for the issue. The owner is dedicated to providing a five-star experience for all guests, as other reviews mention. We are confident this cottage will continue to host many satisfied guests. Best, the Evolve Team

Our stay at Carolyn's Charming Cottage

    Reviewed by: on

    Comment:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carolyn's Cottage. It was beautifully appointed and found it well-depicted in photos offered on VRBO. It was comfortable and cozy. There is a marvelous Bamboo Forest at the back which really afforded a peaceful setting and a sense of privacy...a sacred space! I traveled with my 94 year old Mother and 8 year old Great Niece. My Mother is on a Rollator found the cabin easy to maneuver, and while she had the Master Bedroom, she could only step in to the sink to do her regime as the Rollator would not negotiate the doorway. However, the other bathroom was perfect and the Rollator was accommodated. Mom was able to traverse the entire first floor and deck and she was very happy. I took my Great Niece to Chimney Rock (half an hour drive) to do Gem Mining and have a nice lunch and a swim in the Rocky Broad River. She was in her element and was sad to leave. At the cottage she was captivated with the fire flies which sparkled everywhere. We did not have a fire in the fire pit, but I can see us having one in cooler weather. I thought I knew Tryon well, but discovered new places in this awesome horse country. We carried in dinners from local restaurants this visit. Hopefully we will return for a longer stay and I will cook! The cottage could not be more conveniently located for shopping and the town center, as well as to other attractions. The charm of Tryon is equal to the charm found in Carolyn's Cottage where time crept slowly and we felt as if our time spent there was twice what it was actually. When asked what time it was, the standard reply "a quarter to something"! We shall return! Barbara, Joan and Alli

Overall, the house was tidy, clean, and well-equipped. Would have liked to have known that the second bath was on the main floor, not upstairs. However, we had a good stay and would book it again! It's close to town and easy to get to Saluda, Hendersonville, and Asheville from this location.
