Cute two bedroom close to downtown Houston

    Reviewed by: melanie c. on

    Comment:

I stayed here over the weekend with my daughters and their 2 small children. The property was close to the Children's museum and other downtown attractions so that was our main reason for choosing this property. There were many restaurants and stores within a mile or so from the property so that was nice. I did not have any interaction with the property manager other than the email communication I received prior to our arrival. We had a couple of issues with the place and it would have been nice to have had the manager reach out to me. One of the problems was with the toilet not working properly, The maintenance manager introduced himself when we arrived so we knew who he was. I told him the problem and he fixed it. The a/c does not adequately cool the apartment during the day time. We only turned the air down to about 73 and it was not ever below 77 degrees during the day. At night, it would cool down efficientely. Leaving the property was a little challenging. Per our instructions we left the remote to open the gate in the house, so we had to have someone who lives there open up the gate for us. I looked over my email several times and did not have a code to open the gate so we could drive out of the property. Also, the parking is very limited. Overall, our stay was fine for the price. It was nice that the living room area was separate from the bedrooms and it was cute. The bathroom could use some fixing up.

Loved it, A/C worked great, well equipped kitchen, amenities, etc.. Very happy with my choice. Warning on directions: The entry gate is on Brandt St. and not on Alabama! At night this can be very confusing, just remember to turn on Brandt. Some feedback for some of the previous reviews. This is an older property, if you don't know what that means, you might not like the place. The location, while perfect for getting around the city, is IN the city. If you don't know what that means you might not like it and I would recommend you stay out in the burbs or a hotel. If I ever have need to go back to Houston again, I'm going to check if this place is available.

Centrally located, great apartment. I used to live in the area and we recently moved out of the state but came back for my graduate school commencement. The check-in / check-out process was simple, and we had no issues with the instructions that were provided. The apartment is older, but nicely updated with lots of charm.

Very clean place with all the modern amenities. Great location and secure parking. The construction can be a bit of a hassle, but turn by the convince store for the parking. That street has additional on Street parking in it's quiet neighborhood. Overall my family loved it. Can't be it for the price!

Great place to stay but could use a couple updates. The twin size beds were very firm, pillows seemed old and worn, and shower curtain was awkward but other than that very cool little place that is close to downtown

    Horrible odor/needs deep cleaning

Upon arrival,I instantly felt unsafe. I booked this property based on reviews and I have rented many vacation homes through VRBO and never been disappointed until now. I felt unsafe, I dug deeper and called police department and said they had visited the property 4 times within 2 months. Do your research, online website offers you all the police calls through out the area. This was my fault. Horrible odor, not sure why there is a cleaning fee, hair all over apartment, fridge needed to be wiped down, rugs need to be shampooed and sheets on bed washed. This property needs a major overhaul of deep cleaning.

    A nice place to stay

    Reviewed by: Jodi T. on

    Comment:

The space was very nice. We had an issue getting into the parking lot when we arrived. Apparently the key pad was malfunctioning and no one told us. We arrived in the evening after having traveled all day long with three children, and it was very frustrating to not be able to enter as we sat in the car in the dark. I called Evolve Travel repeatedly, and continued leaving messages, as prompted. Finally someone just happened to open the door to the parking area to leave, and we were able to get in. We spoke to the person who let us in and he gave us the owner's name and number (we did not yet have this information as it was listed inside of the apartment). We contacted him and he stated that the key pad to get in stopped working the day before! It was extremely frustrating that no one had told us this, or had been prepared to let us in when we arrived. Finally Evolve called me back, probably about 30 minutes later. I expressed my frustration to them and they did end up refunding me $30 for our trouble. Besides that we didn't have any issues, and it was a very nice place to stay for our family. We did run the dishwasher only once the night before we left. We only ate out, so we hadn't used too many dishes, but we did have some water glasses, and a few plates from warming leftovers. There was a very strange smell as if there was plastic burning in the dishwasher. I checked it to make sure nothing was in there, and didn't see anything, but the foul smell filled the apartment. I am not sure if there is something wrong with it or what, but we only had a few glasses and plates in there, so I cannot imagine it was anything we had in there. The place was clean, and very safe.

We have worked with the homeowner to identify the nature of the issues you mentioned regarding the check-in instructions, and are confident that it will not recur. Thanks again.
