  • Everything you need is there

    5/5

Cool little spot on the Guadalupe. Picked up our daughter from HOH camp in hunt, Tx and wanted to breakup the drive back to Houston. Location is a little hard to find, but Tina called before our stay and gave us precise directions to the house. You do not need 4 wheel drive to get to the house like I read in other reviews. The walkway down to the river is steep, but i felt it was perfectly safe for my kids (9 & 12) to go up and down. House is pet friendly which is a big plus so we could bring our 3rd child (15lb doodle). One draw back is you are not supposed to bring them to the river. We brought our dog down there on a leash and comments were made by other owners that were down there at the time. We thought as long as he was on a leash it was OK, but i guess not. Property is perfect for family with 2-3 kids that are at least 5yo. Below that age and it would be a pain getting to and from the river. Tina told us not to pack anything other than our clothes and food as everything we would need would be there. She was correct! House was stocked with everything we needed! Very nice stay!

  • Pic shown are not what you get

    1/5

WARNING!!! If you have children, DO NOT stay here. There are many dangers on this property in which a child could get seriously hurt. Pics on websites are deceptive and property not as described or shown. River is not next to the house. you must descend multiple sets of ,neglected ,uneven and steep steps to get to river. Without proper rail. must pass abandoned property that is falling apart, and leaving debris on the path going down to the river. has broken glass and rusty nails, jagged boards within arm reach. picnic table and barb pit, is right next to steep embankment which falls into thick prickly bushes, once again no rail. fire pit behind house is very uneven, and difficult to walk on as there are so many rocks. Chairs kept falling over as no even surface in which to place chair legs. house shares drive way with three other homes, not private. Deep ruts in road will prevent a regular car from arriving at address. we have a 2500 ford V8 it was difficult for us to drive on it. fence along drive is falling down. All in all horrible horrible stay.

  • Peaceful place

    5/5

Only gripe is I thought from the photos we were going to have 2 queen beds in separate rooms. That wasn’t the case, but we made it work. Nice place in general!

  • Quiet, peaceful, and relaxing

    5/5

Looking for a quiet, comfortable place to stay with access to the beautiful Guadalupe river? This was exactly what we were expecting. Yes, you had to walk about 2 minutes down concrete steps with a metal rail to the river. Once you get there, there is a concrete landing with concrete steps and rail into the river. 'Easy peasy' getting in and out and getting the kayaks available to you into the water. Upriver is the best part. There is a 'tub' (a mini eroded canyon in the limestone) with a small waterfall you can sit in and under, and relax and forget all your troubles. The house is older, but roomy and comfortable. There are neighbors that live on either side of this house. We met the older couple to our left down at the river. They were very pleasant and filled us in on the area and the history of the old house built on the bluff overlooking the river right across from where we stayed. The kitchen was roomy, had lots of utensils, more than most people may need. My only suggestion would be a new 12" skillet. The larger one on our visit had seen better days.A big plus to this property is the owner, Tina. Even though she lived elsewhere she made contact with us before, during, and on our last day to let us know if we needed anything to let here know. She even offered more time to check out if we needed it.This is a great place to 'get away', its quiet, you can see stars at night, you have a beautiful river that was hardly affected by the drought that the Hill Country was experiencing during our visit, and there are some great hamburgers at the Hunt Store that are worth the 15 minute drive.
