Beautiful, well maintained property. We will come back!

The several acres of land and waterfront property make for an ideal, relaxed setting. We spent hours by the fire pit in addition to driving a short distance to several hiking locations. The owners of this property have put a great deal of thought into the home and surroundings.

    Solid house w/ pros/cons

This place definitely has space, but the layout is a bit tricky for several families. Overall, pretty pleased with stay. Pros: Spacious with lots of room to spread out. Good location. Nice secluded feel. Access to water. Fun outdoor activities, fire pit, horseshoes, kayaks. Nice deck. Access to washer/dryer very helpful. Very responsive management. Fun, woodsy decor. Cons: Could use one more bedroom. The loft with several beds is tricky for multiple families. Upstairs not kid friendly with railing!! House needs general updates, like all recliners pretty much need replacing. The spiral staircase was a bit precarious. Had some bug issues, but it is out in the woods. Having dock at shoreline would be great. Wifi not great. Finding the place was not easy. GPS does not take you there. Also, the road leading to house is quite small so if you have a trailer, it's very difficult. Overall, we had a good time, but place needs some work.

This home is in a beautiful, secluded place. Nice path to the lake and a wonderful spot to sit and relax. Our son really enjoyed the kayak which was available to use. You can easily leave a fishing boat tied up at the shore. This home had everything we needed to enjoy family time together. We would certainly rent this home again.

Coffee maker had mold growing inside. Stagnant water in dishwasher. Bat excrement on back porch and chairs. 2 bedrooms upstairs without air conditioning. Sun sporting equipment in poor condition. Comfortable sitting areas. Very limited restaurants. No alcohol county - so bring your own. We were told there wasn't a blender (for our smoothies in the morning) so we carried from out of state a blender and when we got there, there were 2 blenders in the cupboard! We would not rent this property again.

    Relaxing location

We enjoyed our stay at Cownie Lodge. The location is peaceful. We were a little unclear about layout of house from the description but were able to make it work. There is only one bedroom (master) on the main floor along with 2.5 baths on level one. On upper level there are 2 Bedrooms and the loft area along with another full bath. The loft area has 2 full beds, a set of bunk beds and 2 couches and 2 chairs. One of the couches has pull out bed but it is not fit to sleep on as is broken and very angled so my son just slept on it as a couch. We had misunderstood the layout and thought only loft upstairs so that was a little hard with my parents and my aunt/uncle doing better not going upstairs, but again made it work. We like to make most of our meals instead of eating out and actually ended up buying a few casserole dishes and pots as there were no casserole dishes at all and the ?nonstick? lining of pans have been so terribly scratched that we didn?t want to cook in them. All that being said, the land is beautiful and peaceful. There were two paths to the lake. The beach areas both very rocky, so we bought water shoes and could go out into the lake and swim. We rented a pontoon from Fairfield Bay marina for one day. Some of our party took the ferry to sugarloaf mountain and hiked it. Some went golfing on the local golf courses (they highly recommended Indian Hills). It was a very nice family vacation and would recommend the area to others.

This was our second time at the Cownie Lodge and it was just as great this time. The house is HUGE and great for the very large extended family that comes together every two years. Most of us are older and the kids are all older so there was a lot of coming and going. The lodge was a great basepoint for everyone to come together for dinners and a stay for a night or two depending on when they had to be at school or work. Its a lovely property and a beautiful lake. Tons of fun in the water with canoes and swimming. We really enjoy our visits there, love Arkansas and can't wait to come back again.

My group of 16 ladies thoroughly enjoyed this vacation getaway! My group does a trip somewhere every year and this year we hit a home run! Thank you for sharing and letting us occupy such a wonderful and accommodating lake vacation home. Yes as in many of the other reviews I have to agree we all loved the restaurant Janssens nearby and had 2 meals there and also enjoyed The Big Mouth Pizza place. We loved that we had 5 acres of privacy and we could giggle all we wanted without disturbing anyone. The back deck was a great place to gather and hang out day or night! Plenty of beds for everyone and lots of space so we were not cramped! The owner and the manager were very accommodating in that they answered any questions we had and made us feel very welcome. If it works out me and my crew want to come back next year!!! I cant wait!!! Thank You Bill and Sondra Cownie!! We absolutely loved being there!! Definitely want to return!!!

The lake was so much fun, we rented boats from nearby marinas & had a blast! We decided to grill out at night because the kids didn't want to leave! We had s'mores at the fire pit & the kids played horseshoes & kayaked & stayed up late in the playroom having foosball tournaments! We would highly recommend for a group get together!

We had a family reunion at the Cownie Lodge which turned out wonderfully. The house had a fun and unique layout with plenty of room to spreadout. The property itself is very secluded - no neighbors anywhere in site. There are two rocky beaches where the kids could play in the water and launch the sit-on kayaks. Our group day trip to boat over to Sugarloaf Mountain for hiking and picnic was a real highlight. Highly recommended!
