A group of friends and I rented this beautiful home for my husbands birthday trip. The home itself was beautiful and the view was even more amazing. You can tell the owners take a lot of pride in this property. Pros: - Cute private beach with sea turtles who nap on the beach and whales you can spot afar - Nice neighbors (especially the 3 golden retrievers we met) - Beautiful view of the ocean/sunset/sunrise - Close to a more swim-able beach with lots of locals and surfers to watch - Comfortable couch, beds, bedding, etc - So many rooms and bathrooms, which was great to give each couple their own space - Large kitchen and living room space to cook and entertain Cons: - Not the best area of Oahu (it's sad to see the large homeless/mental illness community around the area), and we heard from the locals that they didn't like mainland-ers. You drive past this all on the way to the house, but the house is gated and we had no issues. - Like some other review, we did see some wear and tear, but nothing major that would ruin our trip. - Keep in mind, you're about an hour away from Waikiki and/or North Shore. So plan on day trips. - Not many eat-out options so hit up Costco before heading to the house. - Bugs. You are away from the city so bugs are plenty. We had to get mosquito spray and coil repellents. By the end of our trip there were lots of little ants around the house, even though we kept everything very clean. It's likely from the rain that came one morning. We also found ourselves kill/catching a cockroach and tons of gnats one night. - Ticks. We killed two in the house, which likely stuck on something from outside and ended up inside. I'd just be careful... If you're looking to cuddle up in the house and local beach all day, for a few days, then this is the place for you. The sunsets are breathtaking. If you're looking to explore outside of the house, ie restaurants, shopping, bars, etc, then maybe stay closer to the main Waikiki area. And again, keep in mind you'll see the reality of un-affordable housing on the drive to the house. Not the best area of Oahu, but beautiful house.

Overall, our stay was enjoyable and definitely memorable. Our experience was similar to Amanda's below, where the little issues kind of just kept piling up, impacting our stay. The whole check in process was confusing. As per the instructions we received beforehand, we had called the property manager to arrange check in and notify her that the first of us would be arriving around 6pm due to flights arrival and car rental wait time. Under the impression that we'd still have someone personally receive us, as it was still before 8pm, we were surprised to have to do self check-in. That wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that we weren't at all told that two of the bedrooms were located on the ground floor with their own locked entrances, to which we had no idea had their own keys until one of us came across the desk with two instruction manuals and an assortment of keys. After a little scrambling around and testing multiple keys on multiple doors, we finally figured out which keys belonged to which bedrooms. Had it been advertised as such, we may have chosen a different house as we were not expecting the separation. As grand as the kitchen and living spaces were, we were shocked to find the counters dirty and had to clean them all ourselves before we had even used it. Afterwords, we noticed a post-it taped to the dishwasher stating it was "Broken - do not use". To not have a working dishwasher for an entire week, when boarding with 11 people was disappointing and frustrating at times. It was definitely off-putting that each plate, glass or utensil we grabbed from the cabinets and drawers visibly had a soapy residue on them. So we had to do an initial deep clean of most of the plates, glasses and utensils to be used. After each meal, half the counter space would be utilized to air dry all the dinnerware, glassware and flatware we had used between the group of us. Regarding the dishwasher, the property manager did have someone to come and look at it during our stay but unfortunately, being a renovator, to his own admission, he did not know how to repair it. The views were breathtaking. You couldn't help but see ocean. But it was disappointing that the wall to wall lanai doors didn't have a working lock and we instead had to use a bicycle chain lock to secure the doors when we were not in the house. The Pikaki Room didn't have a working light nor fan, which some of us just had to make do with, utilizing cell phone screens to light the way during the night. Ultimately, while the house was very grand, it didn't quite live up to our hopes and expectations. For the price we paid, we would've appreciated a more seamless check-in, working appliances and quicker replies from the property manager who only seemed to be reachable until 4pm.

Manager's Response: Hi Warren, We are sorry to hear that the property fell short of your expectations! The homeowner is dedicated to the experience of their guests, and they have shared your feedback with their property manager to ensure that they will be more available for guests and that they will resolve any issues for upcoming travelers. They'd also like to note that the lanai door was brought in by the original contractor from outside the U.S., and multiple vendors have not been able to find a replacement for the lock. While the bike chain does not match the aesthetics of the lanai door, it is completely secure and the best solution until a matching lock can be found. We do appreciate you sharing your feedback, and we would love the opportunity to travel with you again the next time you book a vacation rental. Best, the Evolve Team
This place is newly renovated and has an amazing view. However, you can see wear and tear in common areas such as kitchen, laundry room downstairs bedrooms and downstairs "lounge area". The floors in this house had a lot of dirt and dust. The downstairs lounge area did not look like the photos and furniture did not appear to be cleaned regularly. On the first day, we accidentally locked a bedroom door and a key was not provided to us. We were instructed to call a locksmith and pay for the service. Evolve would then reimburse us. However, we managed to get through a window. The day we checked-in the sinks in the powder room and bedroom across from bunk bed room were clogged. We had to use a wire hanger to clean out wads of hair then it worked fine. One last thing to mention is the AC units. They were clogged with dust bunnies. Who ever slept next to the unit would wake up with allergies and congestion. I'm giving Evolve the benefit of the doubt because they did allow us to check in early! Perhaps that's why the house didn't look as clean as I had expected. Other than that, the views are just as pictured and the beach is a short walk away.

The listing was perfect for a multi-family vacation! Every bedroom has a full-bathroom! The house was amazing and the location was superb!

A very large and spacious home. The porch offers an excellent view of the ocean, the view of the sunsets are spectacular. The home has a few design quirks, such as two of the rooms/ baths are only accessible from the outside of the home. The manager was very helpful in resolving some of the problems that arose during our stay. We did receive a visit from the City of Honolulu inspector that informed us that this area is limited to rentals of 30 days or more? There is a small beach near the property. The very nice Makaha Beach is just down the road, great for snorkeling, body surfing, etc.

Timothy, we love hearing that you enjoyed this beautiful Waianae home and appreciated the hospitality from the local contact. We apologize that you met solicitors during your stay. We encourage travelers to avoid talking to outsiders and refer any visits to the homeowner so they can fully enjoy their vacation. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience! The absolute best part of staying at this home for a week was the gorgeous view and the small cove beach right next door. The house was a perfect fit for our large family reunion. The outdoor deck was enjoyed every morning and evening and could easily handle everyone in our group. There were beds for everyone and the kitchen is well stocked for a large group. Our property contact, Adam, was very accommodating. However, with that said,I feel that future renters should be aware of some of our concerns. First of all, the drive getting to the home does not provide any sense of the beauty of Hawaii. The beaches you pass along the way are strewn with homeless camps and there are many broken-down vehicles along the route. This is NOT a pristine area. However the small enclave of homes surrounding the property is well maintained and the property gate does give you a sense of security. Additionally there were a few other details that we felt needed addressing: Four of the six bedrooms did not have any closets and none of the bedrooms had any sort of dresser drawers. So you must live out of your suitcase. We were not expecting that for a luxury property. The air conditioning units in each bedroom were noisy and vented via a flexible hose that was placed out the bedroom window--not ideal. The house is starting to show some wear and tear; i.e., locking patio door with a bicycle lock, tv's that didn't work and some of the appliances were very temperamental. All in all we truly enjoyed our stay but considering the price we paid we had to adjust our expectations.

The house was stocked with everything we needed for everyone. Snorkeling and beach toys, life jackets, kitchen tools, and everything we needed for a fun week. The only small complaint we had was the couch?not comfortable and white(not good for grandkids).

The view from the upper or lower parts of the home were incredible. We all loved hearing the rolling sounds of the waves all of the time. The kitchen appliances were great for cooking for a large group but the pots, cooking utensils and bowls could have been better stocked for larger groups. The little beach/bay area is within a short walking distance from the house where you can see sea turtles a couple of times a day and swim in the waves. The property manager was very accommodating and took care of any issues that arose with the property. Upon arrival though, the rooms were not stocked with towels, kleenex or toilet paper which was strange seeing that the rental was advertising a luxury property (you would think that basic things like this would have been seen to). Overall, this property was beautiful and was a tranquil setting if you were wanting to just relax with your family/friends. (If you were wanting a bit of the city life though this is not the place for you as it is located about an hour out of Waikiki).....

Review Translation from Chinese (Simplified) by Google Translate:
Very good house, suitable for large family stay, enjoyable, living facilities are all available, very convenient, invincible sea view, swimming play sea a few steps away. Our family is very happy, thanks to Adam's warm reception.
The ocean view at the Beach House was drop-dead gorgeous. Every time you walk up those stairs or out your bedroom door into the living room, that shimmery gradient of aqua-turquoise-pacific blue stops you dead in your tracks. The rooms are luxurious, spacious, spare (in a good way), clearly renovated with the highest quality materials from around the world. The minimalist, sparkling white of the house’s interior formed a most fitting frame of the million dollar coastal view. We saw humpback whales breaching every single morning during breakfast, sea turtles popping their heads out of the water and sunbathing at the beach next door. The steam room was so relaxing! After a long day at the beach or on the boat or elsewhere, the steam room was a fantastic place to chill out and even warm up.
We were slightly concerned about making our visit in the dead of winter, because we had heard that the waves were strong on the North and West of the island, and we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to swim at the beaches. We were totally wrong! Some beaches had pretty intense waves (like Makaha), but most of the beaches were calm with little to no waves, and there were also plenty of protected bays and lagoons to while away the hours. For your outdoor adventures, the house is generously equipped with spearfishing spears, four boogie boards, five beach chairs (two extra comfy ones), one beach umbrella (for less windy days), numerous beach towels, and one massive canopy. Hale Nalu close by rents surfboards and paddle boards at incredibly affordable rates (we got surfboards for $60/week/per).
We were also not so sure about the local scene at Makaha. The local food was fantastic and the locals are friendly and happy. The beaches were not touristy at all, not crowded, and still just as if not more beautiful than the many beaches found throughout the rest of the island. It’s a great part of the island if you want to experience Hawaii without the horrendous traffic and high prices of many of the other parts of Oahu. And who knew the valleys in the northwest part of the island resembled those from the legendary Napali Coast?
All in all, a magnificent experience at a singular property.
This was the perfect place for our family group to stay! There were 2 elderly grandparents (one who was on a walker recuperating from hip surgery), 3 married couples and 2 single adults. Each ?couple? had their own suite with bath and plenty of space to be by themselves or together with the entire group. We loved preparing meals together in the huge, ample, and modern kitchen and eating together on the lanai or at the inside table. The beds and linens are amazing! Adam went above and beyond to make our stay even more exceptional by providing extra chairs and a banquet table so that our large group could eat Christmas dinner together! He even provided us a double boiler to make our favorite breakfast meal. There is a large outdoor charcoal grill where we grilled most of our meat and two sets of washer-dryers that were able to handle our needs for laundry on the lower level. There?s lots to do close by the house: a small beach just steps away and hiking trails north on the main road with larger beaches and trails that lead to a bird sanctuary! We saw 2 sea turtles on the small beach and a monk seal and albatrosses at the bird sanctuary. The house has a nice yard in back with a set of bocce balls for playing games. The sunsets couldn?t be more perfectly centered on the huge sliding glass wall which completely opens to the amazing lanai. We are so glad that the owner chose to share their home with us at Christmas! Mahalo! Emily December 2017

We stayed at this property over New Year's Eve for a multigenerational family vacation, with 12 people ages 1 year to 80 years. We were extremely impressed not only by the house itself, which was updated, spacious, and beautiful, but by the excellent property management and accommodating staff. Before and during our trip, we stayed in touch with Adam, a property manager, who gave us tons of local tips on good beaches and restaurants, and also was extremely flexible with us to allow us to spend as much time in the house as possible given our travel plans. There were so many things at this home that we would not have been able to bring that absolutely made our trip-- boogie boards, sand toys, tons of towels and beach chairs, a beach tent, snorkel equipment, 2 washers and 2 dryers, plenty of linens, well-stocked kitchen-- the list goes on and on. We've stayed in many rental homes before that were sparse and poorly stocked, but this home was not one of them. We were also pleasantly surprised by the beautiful beach next door to the home, where we saw sea turtles and snorkeled daily. Our trip was fantastic and we would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to spend a relaxing trip in Oahu.

We especially enjoyed having a bathroom for every bedroom. Also, the beds/sheets were very comfortable. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our family of 13 so the home was perfect. Great little beach by the home as well as others close by. Easy to travel to other tourist locations around the island. We used the snorkeling goggles & fins every day. We will always remember our lovely stay in Waianae.

This house is amazing! Spacious and private, with all the amenities you could ask for. We didn't think it could get any better from the moment we walked in until we watched the sunset from the second story patio! The home is right on the water, tucked away in the quiet community of Waianae but well within range of all Oahu has to offer. There are multiple beaches within walking distance and we saw turtles each day on the beach. This has been our favorite trip to Hawaii!
We had a wonderful stay at this fantastic house! Words could not describe the beautiful sunsets we got to experience every night. Turtles, dolphins and tons of colorful fishes were spotted at the almost private beach. If you are looking for a place to heal your soul or just have a fantastic holiday in the most scenic environment, you came to the right place. Ti also have to give some extra credit to the host Adam. He was really helping out and arranged whatever we needed help with! 5 Stars, no doubt!

This is a lovely home with the ocean right outside! The upper outdoor living space was our favorite gathering spot for morning coffee and breakfast and then evening dinner and watching the sunsets. Breezes off the ocean help keep it cool (I'm talking outside since there is air conditioning inside) but when the sun heats the upper level, we just moved to the large outdoor seating area on the ground floor. Lots of comfy places to lounge, read and/or take a nap. If you're looking for a retreat away from the congestion, a place to truly relax, this place is perfect! However, if it's your first time to Oahu and want to take in the major tourist sites, then just allow extra time to get there. Mileage isn't the problem but traffic can be along the shoreline drive. There's a small beach less then a minute's walk away where you can swim, snorkel, play in the sand, and share the sun with turtles (we saw them every day). Twice, we also spotted dolphins swimming past the house. Adam, the caretaker, was exceptional - always available and quickly responsive. Nothing was really an issue but since the house is a newcomer on the rental scene, there were a few things we suggested that could make a great stay even better.

Thanks for this glowing review, Denise! We are thrilled that you had such a great time and we hope to host you again soon! Best, The Evolve Team
This home is absolutely stunning. It's most impressive feature? The view!!! Every time I walked up the stairs to the main level and saw the bright blue ocean set against the home's light interior, it nearly took my breath away. The people in my party and I kept saying that this is what heaven must feel like. ;) The home is very well decorated, which also helped add to its heavenly feel. The home has everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing stay in paradise: super comfortable beds, a large open living room and spacious kitchen, and best of all, a large deck to enjoy that amazing view. We saw sea turtles and dolphins off the deck! There is also a good-sized yard and a grill, and so we enjoyed lots of time eating and playing in the home's outdoor spaces. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower! The location for the home exceeded my expectations. I hadn't spent much time in Waianae before, but after this trip it is one of my favorite parts of the island! First, there is a small beach just steps from the house where sea turtles come on to shore to rest. During our stay we saw four turtles at once on the beach! We could see them come on shore from the home's deck so of course we went then went over and took lots of photos. :) The bigger nearby beach, Makaha Beach, is absolutely beautiful. It's set against the mountains and lined with palm trees, and the sand is super soft. There's great bodyboarding, and it's good for other activities like SUPing and snorkeling. We also enjoyed hiking the Kaena Point trail, which leads to a nature preserve with monk seals and other wildlife. Some of the folks in our group went deep sea fishing from the nearby harbor. Basically we discovered that the West side of the island offers all the same activities and more as the other parts, without all the tourists! Which is fitting when you are staying at such a peaceful home.
