    Log Cabin Living

    Reviewed by: colleen m on

We have stayed at many VRBO properties over the years and this is one ofthe most expensive rentals we have booked. When paying over $400.00 anight, I expect impeccable accommodations. Unfortunately, the propertyowner did not update amenities on the website so we were very disappointedto learn that we were not allowed to use the fire pit. This may not seemlike a big deal but when planning a family vacation, and this isadvertised, it does play a role in making a decision to rent. The contactmanager's response was, "Well we don't usually allow you to use the hottub, so you get to use that." Once again, the hot tub was listed as anamenity not as compensation for not being able to use the fire pit.Furthermore, the refrigerator rattled SO loudly that you could hear it allnight in both the downstairs bedrooms, even with the doors closed. Onceagain, not a huge deal - but paying top dollar for a rental, this shouldhave been fixed. When I contacted the property manager, she simplycommented that, "Yes, the refrigerator is loud." Finally. there is a dockwhere renters can fish and this is a lovely location - the only problem isthat a portion of the wood on the dock was split, making for difficultfooting. Although each mentioned item is an inconvenience, with a littlebit of maintenance each could be solved. The house is beautiful andcentrally located but there should be more attention to the small details.

    Not for multiple couples

    Reviewed by: Tiffany V. on

The property was as described and was in good enough condition. Overall we had a great time.

Prior to arriving, the initial email made me worried a little because it was full of rules and no real welcome. That didn’t turn out to be an issue, but there were definitely more rules posted at the house and plenty of rules emailed for the checkout process.

There is only one bed that is reasonable for an adult couple. The second queen bed was pretty miserable for the person by the wall. I hit my head a couple times trying to get out in the middle of the night. Moved to the couch the first night then gave up and slept alone on the top bunk the last night. This bed is an attempt at putting an extra queen in, but it isn’t practical because there is so little clearance height. It should be a standard queen or a standard bunk bed. The combo doesn’t work.

The fire pit was filled with planted flowers so it couldn’t be used. All the adjacent houses were identical and had working fire pits, so this seemed like an owner preference to not have to deal with. When renting a cabin, it was weird to not be able to sit outside by the fire.

The hot tub had sand in it when we arrived, even though there was a giant sign with directions and rules. Fine... things happen. However when renting a house with a hot tub in the past, they have always had test strips so we could check the chemicals and feel comfortable. We finally found some...the results looked way off...then I realized the strips were from 2012. Hopefully they weren’t right, because I finally decided to chance it and go in. My skin isn’t falling off, so all is well!

Last... I was jaded because of the price. The adjacent cabins were identical and many had newer furniture, items included such as kayaks or bikes, working fire pits, etc... and several of them were lower price. In the end, this place was fine but a little dated and would be best for singles or a family with only one couple. We paid almost $1600 for 3 nights and I didn’t sleep well for any of them. I expected more for the price.

Again, we had a great time. The above issues might be a consideration for others.

    Manager's Response:
Tiffany, we're glad you enjoyed your stay overall, but are sorry to hear about the aspects of your stay that fell short. As evident in past reviews, other guests have never had an issue with the beds. We realize that everyone has a personal preference for beds, but we're sorry these didn't meet your needs. The cabin also has two fold-away beds available for guest use. Due to township regulations, vacation rentals in the area are restricted from using fire pits and the homeowner strictly follows these regulations. We carefully set competitive rates for each property after a thorough analysis of the property itself and the surrounding area. We can confirm the furniture, bedding, and kitchen supplies are only two years old. Additionally, the cabin is tastefully decorated with custom-designed logwood furniture and the photos accurately depict the interior so guests have an idea of what to expect in terms of furnishings and amenities. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and are confident future guests will have five-star experiences! Best, the Evolve Team

Our family really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The location was great- our kids loved being able to get in the pool, walk on the boardwalk, and especially the short walk to get ice cream! We made the short trips to downtown Saugatuck, Holland, and Oval Beach. It was quick to get to all those places, but nice to come back to a quiet cabin at the end of the day. Everything was very clean and perfectly suited for us. The owners were very responsive to our questions and we would definitely stay here again if we are up that way!

Enjoyed our stay immensely. We had little ones and the pool was SO CONVENIENT, as was the board walk down to the lake. The picture of the front of the cabin is a little deceiving. The front door is quite close to the street and parking is tight for a van and a pick up truck, but that was fine unless you want more yard. My husband got more fish from this lake than he's ever caught elsewhere and it was entertaining as there were very large snapping turtles that actually took part of one of the small blue gills he had on his line. I would say that swimming from that point was not really something any of us had interest in. Saugatuck was extremely crowded, so trips into town were limited. For our part, we didn't care that much about walking around there. From what I could tell, any of the cabins in this area were beautiful and make a great family vacation.

Rented this cabin for a sister/daughter trip Mid October. We had the best time. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. It's close to town and to wineries, the perfect location for a fall getaway. The power went out while we were there. Dorothy was on top of everything. She monitored the outage, advised us on where to go while we waited it out, and gave continuous updates. What could have been a disaster ended up being a mere annoyance, and was handled perfectly. We spent most of our time sitting by the fireplace playing games and listening to music. Definitely worth the money.

Cabin looks just like the pictures. The place was clean and all the instructions were clear. We enjoyed the fireplace very much. The location is just a few minutes drive into downtown Saugatuck and Douglas. The community in which this cabin resides is right off Big Star Highway. This particular unit is not super close to highway, so noise was not bad, but if you?re looking at other similar cabins, be aware that you may end up right next to the freeway. Also, these cabins do not have big lot sizes. So while there was a small backyard of trees, the cabin next door was very close and you can almost hand your neighbor a beer from the back porch. Not an issue for us as we went in off season and no one was next door. This is a corner house, so you are also next to a street. Again, not an issue when we were there but not sure what it?s like during busy season. Overall, I do recommend.

This was a nice cabin. We enjoyed it for a girls weekend however there were a few things that could have been better. The good: Great location, it was clean and cozy, and the hot tub was fabulous. What could have been better? We were told to bring our own towels. I feel like when you spend as much as we did per night we should not have had to bring bath towels with us. The fire pit was really nice, but they could use some more comfortable chairs around the fire pit. They had tree stumps so we found we did not use the fire pit as much as we did that last time we stayed at a Kingfisher Cove property. The beds were okay, but again - for as much as we paid per night they could have been more luxurious. Toilets were a bit dirty with lines in them. Overall it was okay but could definitely use some improvements because of the rate they charge per night. Owner was gracious and let us check out late. We appreciated that. We loved our weekend and spent a lot of time downtown Saugatuck and we loved the Saugatuck Dune ride.

Nice kitchen, open floor plan, and a big soaking tub upstairs. My only regret is not using the hot tub on the screened-in porch! There's a community pool right out front that can get lively with kiddos during the day/evening, but you can't hear anything inside the cabin. It's also a nice amenity to have, especially with kids. Sleeping tip: There are 5 beds (two of which are part of a bunk bed) and two couches. I would not recommend using the pullout couch upstairs as a pullout. We would definitely go back!
