    Great Location on the Lake

    Reviewed by: Kay E. on

    Comment:

We arrived at Gary and Sharon?s rental in Rice Lake on Monday, September 3rd for a four day stay. Gary was kind enough to let us check into the rental a few hours early, Thank you Gary! This rental is in a GREAT location on the lake (it?s located on the channel with a no-wake zone in front of the cabin, if you like to relax and listen to nature that is GREAT). Gary had set up the wood in the firepit for us to have a campfire and we were welcomed with beverages in the fridge! Gary was working on the home (owned by him) next to our rental when we arrived. In addition to Gary, there was a carpenter working as well. We talked to Gary about how we specifically rented this cabin because we wanted to relax and enjoy peace and quiet - the sound of pounding, drilling, and sawing was not our idea of relaxation. We discussed, and Gary agreed that he would work until 5:30 P.M. Except for the initial work on the house next door, our time at the rental was quiet. We suggest trimming a few of the trees in front of the rental so more of the lake can be seen from the house or deck. The beds in the rental could be more comfortable, new mattresses could go a long way toward ensuring a good night?s sleep. The pontoon is a GREAT add-on to the rental. We feel that the location of this rental is close to perfect. Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy the lakes in your area.

First, The Traynors are the best hosts! Can?t say that enough, we ran into some rough weather and checked out some local sites in their tips and the kids had a blast! Pontoon boat rental is a must! We had so much fun on it! Kids caught lots of fish and the wife, who isn?t really an outdoors person, had fun being on the lakes and fishing. House had everything you need! Can?t wait to book again and really can?t wait to see the new place next door when it?s finished! I highly recommend this place if you want to relax and get out on a great 3 lakes! Try fishing the no wake areas, kids caught a little of everything! Anyway looking forward to next year! We will definitely be back! Thanks again to Gary and Sharon!

First, I never write a review, but I felt strongly that I should say a few words about the cabin/house and our host. The cabin was great, lots of room, deck overlooking the lake, great dock....just beautiful! I can't remember having a better/nicer host than Gary and Sharon, I've been vacationing on lakes for 30 years and by far they are the best hostess I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Thanks again for a great week of fishing and relaxation!

We vacationed here in 2016 and came back again this summer. Location, location, location! We love this great spot with access to 3 lakes! We rented the pontoon for the week and were out on the water every day. Meals were perfect on the spacious deck and we enjoyed campfires in the fire pit every night, too. Walking the dog up and down the road was very scenic....we even saw a couple deer! The 2 teens loved staying downstairs, and it was nice for all of us to get a bit of space ;-) Gary and Sharon were very friendly and accommodating. And I managed to get a bit of exercise in to boot - I ran up and down the steps to the lake 1/2 hour each day - whew!!!

    Another terrific week!

Overall we had a good time. Owners were very nice and friendly. Was a nice place but smaller than expected for the price we paid. Rented the pontoon for the weekend, gave us the smaller one, radio didn?t work and had to hook up the trolling motor ourselves(rental fees were a little high for what we got) although maybe wouldn?t be bad for just a quick day rental for out on the lake if you have your own speaker. First time I?ve stayed at a place were you have to empty all your trash cans, sweep, and clean everything up, dishes I understand and putting trash in a garbage but then I feel this is why we paid so much to stay there so we don?t have to mop/sweep/etc. It?s hard to find so be careful to not get lost especially if you have any trailer in tow. Would stay again if the price were to come down a little or if they did the emptying of the trash/mop/sweeping/etc for the price we paid. Just needs a little tweaking. Very nice owners though so I hope this helps both them and future renters. Thank you for a memorable weekend!

My wife and I (and our two English Setters) were in Wisconsin in February for the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski festival in Hayward. It was a beautiful snowy February weekend and the Traynor cottage was a comfortable and cozy place to spend the long weekend. We?ve never had a host as welcoming and accommodating as Gary. He contacted us well ahead of our stay to make sure we had accurate directions and instructions for using the cabin. We had several heavy snow flurries throughout the weekend and Gary made sure the deck and all the steps were cleared off each time. He even had a few bottles of wine in the fridge for us! The cottage is tasteful decorated and very comfortable. It is situated high above the lake and there are several great spots to enjoy the view, both inside and outside the cottage. There is a fire pit in the yard with lots of wood to enjoy a blazing fire. Summer or winter, the Rice Lake area of Wisconsin is a wonderland for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Beautiful scenery, scenic views, accommodating hosts, and a modern, spacious and comfortable cottage all make for a great time! We will be coming back!

Great deck for relaxing. Nice to be able to rent the owners pontoon boat, great for boating/fishing. This area is very quiet. The cottage is situated in a no wake zone on the lake. Cottage was clean, easy to get to. You do have to drive to Rice Lake for groceries etc but about a 15 min drive if that. Gary and Sharon were very nice host, even helped jump start our car. Owners went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I would definitely recommend this cottage to others. One thing, which is not uncommon on lakes is the tap water, you have to buy/bring your own bottled water for drinking. Thanks for letting us use your place! Traci, Verona WI

There were 4 of us in our party and the accommodations were comfortable. The weather was perfect so we spent the majority of time on the water. We explored Red Cedar lake a couple of days but the Best fishing was right there in the Narrows. We easily had enough fish for a last night fish fry. Pike, Walleye, Large Mouth Bass and perch were mainly what we caught. The owners have done a good job on updating the basement of this vacation home and a nice upgrade on the stairs going to the lake. The pontoon was equipped with a trolling motor and a fish locator which was a very nice perk! Gary and Sharon are very kind and helpful owners. Thanks for letting us use your home!

We went up for a two day stay and was pleasantly surprise at the accommodations that this home has. The owners thought about everything they would like at a vocation home and put it in this one. We grilled out on the deck overlooking the lake and the owners had everything needed: dishes, silverware, glasses and utensils enough to throw a party. Then we took the owners pontoon for a ride around this beautiful lake. The Red Cedar river is dammed up to make Red Cedar Lake with two small lakes connected to it. It has great fishing and is well known for Bass and Walleye. We hit a cold front which made fishing tough but had a great time enjoying the crystal clean water. In the evening the owner furnished excess to Cable TV, a whole shelf of CD movies and board games to keep you occupied. We decided to spend our time on the upper deck trying out their new patio furnisher enjoying the stars and having a few drinks. In the mourning it was nice to have two showers to get ready for the day. Another nice option was to have two floors with living room furniture so you can separate your group if you want to. The kitchen/dining area had everything needed to do all your cooking needs. We took another pontoon ride this time the islands and continued up to the dam. You won۪t run out of water to explore because this is a big lake with many bays to fish in. The owners provided a fish cleaning table and a freezer to put your fish in.

Overall you won۪t find a better place to vacation.

You bring the food, drinks and fishing poles and they furnish the rest.
