The river in the property's backyard is TVA release-controlled and great for catching the stocked fish. The river release is usually twice a day around 10:00-11:00 am for an hour, and the second release typically happens around 2:00-3:00 pm.

Indulge in a rejuvenating morning swim or simply float in the river, before venturing 100 yards up to a small area that you can sit in for a natural "hydro-massage"! There's even a light that shines out over the river, should you be in the mood to go night swimming.

You can also opt to float down to the owners' dock with the provided tubes - upon request when available, they can give rides to the dam located 2 miles up the river so you can have a blast floating 30-40 minutes back to the dock! If available, the owners will also be happy to guide you to the dock on the first trip if requested, so you can get used to the river.

This property is also within a couple miles of pristine hiking trails, play areas in the park, Cherokee National Forests, and a big lake, which has an excellent beach area for swimming. When you're not in the mood to cook at home, you'll find several great dining options in the area, including an Italian restaurant, deli, and more.

The golfers in your group will be delighted by the nearby public golf course, just 10 miles away. For a fun excursion, travel 15 miles to embark on a scenic train ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Wonderful riverside retreat, with the greatest hosts ever

    Reviewed by: McTigue222 on

We're a family of four with kids 12 and 14 from Chicago. We wanted a place that everyone would enjoy for a half week on the way down to Florida. This place really exceeded expectations. 1) The place is great. It's section of a larger house that is completely private. Large sunroom, large deck, large kitchen and family room, two great bedrooms - basically a master and kids room. I know they sleep more than 4 easily, but it was perfect for us. Down by the river they have a wonderful multi-tier deck, grill, fire pit. We spent hours down there. You'll have no complaints with the lodging. 2) The location is beautiful with good activities. Surrounded by mountains, the area is famous for the white water rafting nearby. We did a trip with Ocoee Outdoors. We liked it a lot. It seemed like they spent more time on the river than the other outfitters. We also did some hiking near the lake and found amazing waterfalls. The kids loved it. Did some horseback riding with Ocoee horseride which was fun. Maybe the best and simplest thing - we probably floated down the river from the dam to the house on inner tubes 6 times. It's probably a 30-40 minute lazy trip. Which leads me to my last point. 3) The hosts - It's like your favorite aunt and uncle had an amazing place on a river. Gary, the owner, drove us up to the dam to float down literally whenever we wanted. Never imposing, always helpful. Over the top wonderful people.

If AirBnB had a contest for the best hosts, Gary and Sheryl would win. We're a family of 4 with a 12 and 14 year old from Chicago. We stopped here for 4 nights on the way down to Seaside FL. 1) Their place is fantastic. I was expecting a smaller condo type place, but it's a roomy private section of a home. Two nice bedrooms with full bathrooms. Nice living room and kitchen. Laundry. Really nice enclosed patio where we ate most meals. Great deck. And amazing dual level deck on the river. Life jackets, kayaks, tubes, fire pit, big grill. Our kids played in the river for hours. You could stay here comfortably for weeks. 2) I can't overstate how incredibly helpful the hosts are. Like your favorite aunt and uncle that have been anticipating your visit all year. One example. This place is a 30 minute inner tube float downriver from the dam. Gary must have driven us up there 6 times. It's a beautiful part of the world and Gary and Sheryl are wonderful people.

The property was beautiful and well cared for indoors and out. I would absolutely recommend it to a friend or relative and may even be staying there again myself in the future. We were able to enjoy 1 evening grilling our dinner down by the river on their big grill but the weather and our schedule forced us to eat out or use their kitchen for the remainder of our meals. BUT, that wasn't a problem because the kitchen had the cooking utensils and everything but the food needed to make a meal. We enjoyed several evenings playing games at the kitchen table with our family. I even read several chapters out of 1 of the many books provided while my husband watched the huge TV in the living room. OH, and wait until you sit on the enclosed porch on the swing or in 1 of the rockers or even at the beautiful table. You can use the climate control unit with air conditioning or heat or just use the really neat overhead fans. The owners, Gary and Sheryl are simply delightful and as helpful as can be and live up to the sign above the entry door into the house: Enter As Strangers; Leave As Friends!

The apartment has been renovated, was very clean, spacious, and well stocked with anything you need. The river is just beautiful we tubed down the river in the evening while the river was high and kayaked in the morning while the river was low. It was just very relaxing and had a peaceful calm to it. We did try several of the local restaurants in the area, Lottie's for breakfast which has huge pancakes, Pablos Mexican, Papas Pizza, and Ocoee Dam and Deli. All the restaurants were fine some were better than others but we like to support the local businesses and they are so friendly and fun to talk with. Met my best friend in the world here. We met & served in the Navy together back in the 70's. I was searching for somewhere on a river, just to reminisce & relax. Feeling a bit overwhelmed in my search, I mentioned it to my son. He located this place online & when I seen it, I said, "Book It". Thank You Son !!! This wound up being one of the best choices I have ever made, in this wonderful adventure of life. The place is even more beautiful inside & out, than the posted pictures can begin to capture. All at a very affordable rate. You will absolutely need for nothing at this location. I have never felt more at home anywhere in my life. The inside is spotless clean and very spacious. I am not much of a decorator, but I know my wife would have been amazed. The outside landscape, decks & grills were perfect. The weather was perfect as we spent much time at the deck on the river. The river itself & scenery are worthy of a postcard. Water is as clear as glass, & the campfires on the river at night make me speechless. I could go on & on & on, but I can assure you that what I have said is the Gospel Truth. Now if you will, I would like to mention something about the owners, Gary & Sheryl. I was not sure how it would be to to have the owners on the same property, but I can put your mind to rest. They are the most gracious, humble hosts that this world has to offer. They are just simply a "Special Couple". They will cater to any need you might have. Even drop you off upstream & let you float back to the dock. Which I would highly recommend, because if you have any stress in your life, you will feel it melt away. I could go on & on & on about Gary & Sheryl, but trust me, they are awesome. We entered as strangers & left as best of friends. Let me close bye saying that we are already planning a return trip next year, with our wives, so they can experience this " Little Piece of Heaven". THANK YOU GARY & SHERYL FOR A SPECIAL TIME !!! Buddy

This was the best family vacation our family of 6 has ever taken! This house is a little piece of heaven situated directly on the Ocoee River and beautifully and lovingly landscaped by the owners, Gary and Sheryl. The home is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean! The memory foam mattresses were so comfortable and we slept like we were at home! Gary and Sheryl were such gracious hosts! They greeted us with fresh baked cookies and brownies upon our arrival, set up an extra mattress for our kids, drove us upriver multiple times for tubing/kayaking down the river, and set up a grill and table on the dock for us. We especially enjoyed grilling and just hanging out on the dock while the kids played in the river. They gave us a great recommendation for enjoying the swimming holes at the Ocoee Whitewater center nearby which we thoroughly enjoyed! We also loved taking funyaks down the Hiwassee River with Ocoee Outdoors in Reliance, TN. Although we enjoyed these little adventures, we could have been just as happy spending every minute right there on their beautiful property! We brought ENO hammocks and hung them in the trees down by the river and LOVED the time we spent just playing in the river in the morning and late evening when the water was low. There is also a deck and closed in sun porch just for guests. We ate every meal outside and we didn't eat out a single time because we wanted to spend as much time there as possible. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to prepare our meals. We were so sad to leave on day 3! We will definitely be back! The sign over the door says "Enter as strangers, leave as friends!" This is the perfect way to describe this sweet couple! We are blessed to have made new friends and look forward to visiting them again! Thanks a million Gary and Sheryl!!!

The apartment was beautiful and very functional, we had everything we needed to prepare meals and just relax. The owners were as gracious and kind as could be, bending over backwards to make sure our stay was great.

While most people who come to this area of Tennessee like to take advantage of the High Adventure activities like rafting and zip lining, we were recommended to take advantage of the recreational area on the top of Chilhowee. We were not disappointed. If you do wander up to Chilhowee take the hike down to Benton Fall and then spend the afternoon swimming in playing in McKay Lake, you will not be disappointed.

We will definitely be back, thanks Gary and Sheryl!

Best kept secret on the Ocoee River

Reviewed by: Carol & Mike on

I was a teeny bit skeptical about a "VRBO" near the Ocoee River. We've kayaked there for 20 years so we're familiar with the area. We hosted a company raft trip down the Upper and Middle Ocoee and this was the stay place after the BBQ dinner at the outfitters. We tried to find a cabin but the cabins were all rented and we were referred to this VRBO...

When we got to the VRBO (just 2 miles from the outfitters), my jaw hit the ground. I didn't expect something so beautiful. The kids RAN past the house straight to the dock and put their feet in the water. There are awesome natural rock formations by the river. There's a sunroom out the back. The property is actually much deeper than the photos show. And it's CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!! I'm sooo glad they don't allow smokers or animals.

The owners made homemade glutten-free cookies and left milk to go with (kids loved it), and also had a cold watermelon and bottled water in the fridge. There were inner tubes for the kids and sit on top kayaks to paddle. The owners even offered to get out the slip-and-slide for the kids or run shuttle so the kids could inner tube down the river and get out right on the dock. You get the feeling they love families.

If you're looking for an affordable vacation place in Tennessee, this is THE PREMIERE VACATION HONEY HOLE, an absolute DREAM for families with kids, especially if you're on a budget. This place is well appointed and professionally decorated. It's the Tennessee equivalent to a ski resort cabin in a place like Colorado. There's a lot to do in the area (rafting on the Hiwassee or Ocoee, zip lining, mountain biking, swimming on the lake) but it doesn't cost extra to use the tubes, dock or kayaks on the property and it's so beautiful you won't want to leave after you arrive. The river setting here is pristine, like a National Park setting but without the crowds or smokers or trash. It's unbelievable.

Cleaner and more comfortable than any 5 star hotel, it's the best kept secret on the Ocoee River right now. Plan early... when the word gets out about this slice of heaven it'll be difficult to get a reservation here.

At the riverside near everything fun and good about Tennessee to me. Bass, trout, shellcrackers, bluegill and blue heron, trees, clear water, birdsongs, whitewater kayaking, river floating, lake floating and more.

The amount of craftmanship done inside is charming, and the live plants in the airy all glass room were great. The beds were comfortable, very. Brand new too. The doors are nice, the floors are clean, the place fit my family needs perfectly.

The place is very well laid out and the owners have really detailed the place with nice style.

The place is as nice as I've ever seen. Kitchen was very well equipped.

    Communication was prompt and easy.

The best get away stress relief place EVER

We stayed here before it was listed by VRBO and can honestly say that sitting on the dock and listening to the water flow by made the stress melt away. There are so many activities in the area for the whole family. We had a wonderful time and have recommended this place to friends and family. The owners are incredibly gracious and accomodating.

We definitely plan a return trip.
