    -- THE PROPERTY --

*NOTE: Your safety matters. This property features 3 exterior security cameras, above the garage door, sliding kitchen door, and facing the mountains. They do not look into any interior spaces*

Master Bedroom: Queen Bed | Bedroom 2: Queen Bed | Bedroom 3 (Loft): 2 Full Beds

In 1971, Barrett House was designed by celebrated Colorado architect Charles Haertling for noted artist Clotilde Barrett. Since then, the house has maintained its architectural significance with recent earth-friendly renovations, including cork flooring and soft rugs made with recycled plastic bottles.

While the property features modern luxuries, the beautiful 3,000 square foot interior was decorated to celebrate the eclectic mid-century decor that Mrs. Barrett would have chosen herself in the 1970’s. Soaring ceilings and numerous skylights let in plenty of natural light from all angles and make the Barrett House feel like a massively open tree house.

Offering 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and enough space to comfortably accommodate 6 guests, this residence is a fantastic size and layout for families or a group of friends traveling together. Everything you need to feel at home is here, including wireless internet access, in-unit laundry machines, a desktop computer, and color printer for your convenience. This home is perfect for guests who desire plenty of room to spread out and relax in privacy, as the home features a loft and office throughout 3 spacious levels.

After an exciting day exploring Boulder, look forward to unwinding in the theatre room, where a Bose powered sound system and massive 80-inch high definition screen create the ultimate movie experience. Later, prepare a delicious home-cooked meal in in the large eat-in kitchen. A Mad Men inspired bar and dining room with a ceramic art installation provide amazing spaces to entertain your company.

As you're winding down, take a soak in the private hot tub and bask in the stunning scenery surrounding you. On those cold and snowy nights, cozy up by the cast iron fireplace. The balcony extending off the living room is the ideal spot to spend warmer evenings, admiring striking sunsets and the twinkling lights of downtown Boulder - few night skies are more brilliant and vivid than those seen from the Barrett House.

When you’re finally ready to call it a night, retire to one of the plush bedrooms to rest up for the next day. The master bedroom will serve as your ultimate retreat, boasting breathtaking views of the Continental Divide, a reading loft, and a spa-like en suite with a petrified wood sink, spa jet shower, and electric heated flooring.

    -- THE LOCATION --

From this incredible house, the best that Boulder has to offer will be right at your fingertips! The naturally landscaped grounds and outstanding rock outcroppings at the Barrett House, provide prime opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, and snowshoeing.

Additionally, the 800,000 acre Roosevelt National Forest borders the property, so you’ll have no trouble finding outdoor adventures. A scenic 15 minute drive down Lee Hill Road will lead you past the enchanting Boulder Canyon to shops and restaurants within North Boulder.

The heart of Boulder isn’t much further, and offers gorgeous parks, famous attractions, hospitals, and the University of Colorado. Spend the day at the historic Pearl Street, where you can meander through eclectic boutiques and dine at award winning restaurants. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time here, this magnificent Boulder vacation rental home is truly a unique and complete mountain getaway!

What a pleasure it was for our family of four to stay at this special property. A throwback impeccably designed and immediately comfortable. Many places to tuck away and enjoy the views, both outside and inside. We thoroughly enjoyed the artwork, the collection of albums and the cozy theater room! Although we did not use the hot tub, that is an added bonus at the top of the mountain with incredible Boulder views! While designed to be period specific, the bathrooms and kitchen are modern, comfortable and extremely functional. A perfect spot for a group.

It's difficult to articulate in a short review just how beautiful the Barrett House is in person. There are stunning views both inside and out in almost every direction with a cool 70s interior style that reflects the house's history and the gorgeous scenery outside. It's absolutely one of the most interesting and unique homes I've ever been in with ample space for a good size group to stay with enough distinct sections of the house to never feel on top of each other. As it's only 15 minutes from downtown Boulder, it feels secluded without being inconvenient. The outside of the house is also unique in that a footpath takes you from the back stairwell up to the perfectly situated hot tub and then up even further to a small ridge that gives you unbelievable views of Boulder to the southeast and mountains to the north and west. As the haze from the western wildfires dissipated over the few days of our stay, we were able to very clearly see downtown Denver from this vantage point - a distance of over 30 miles. Lastly, the hosts were incredibly communicative and inviting. All questions were answered promptly and completely and they were flexible in accommodating our nighttime check-in after a long flight from the east coast. Overall, this was one of the best Airbnb experiences I've had and I'd recommend anyone visiting Colorado and/or Boulder to stay here. You won't find another house like it.

The Barrett House affords spectacular view of Boulder at night, as well as, the mountains. The house is decorated in a 70's theme in keeping with the original construction and design which is both interesting and charming. The house has an open style and is fun for large families or groups. The house is well equipped with a large theater room and lots of family spaces. We were there during an unusually hot period and while the house is in the mountains and cool in the evenings it does not have air conditioning or ceiling fans so was hotter during the day. The owners provided fans for each bedroom.

Absolutely love the view and the location. Home is an old updated home. Kudos to Brian (owner's neighbor who helped check us in) who was flexible, brilliant and helpful. I would have given the home a 5 star if we were to arrive before or after mid-summer. Beware if you are arriving in the middle of summer, there is NO a/c in the home so the top floor tends to get very hot (90 degrees and up) especially late in the afternoon since there is no window for air circulation. We barely could sleep at night due to the heat even after we open up all the windows (unless you're in the basement room). Owner should consider putting in a mobile or window a/c unit for mid-summer since global warming is creeping into Colorado mountains. Would have expected to have some kind of basic comfort given how much we paid.

Overall, the experience was good. The property is beautiful and the house itself is very well maintained. However, I was a little frustrated that we weren't able to use the hottub. The property manager stated that a hinge for the cover was broken. I'm not a hottub expert but it appeared to be working well otherwise. There was enough time for the owner to place "Do not use hottub" signs up all over the place but I received no notification in advance to let me know that this was the case. Considering that the hottub was about 90% of the reason I chose this property, that is why I am leaving 2 stars.

Manager response: We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the frustration caused regarding the hot tub. We are working with the property owners to repair the hot tub and ensure future guests are informed prior to check in if it is out of order. We apologize again for the inconvenience caused and hope to assist you in your future travels.

    Very Nice house

    Reviewed by: Joseph DeVito on

    Comment:

Great property and views. Interior of the house is nice, but very "open" on the main level so sound travels. Also the layout is a bit odd, but you're not buying the place. Downside is that it's a haul down a winding road into North Boulder, 15 mins for anything. There isn't much at all near the house (hikes, etc) so you need to drive to get anywhere. But that does provide peace and privacy.

We had an amazing stay from the moment we arrived, with a warm and friendly welcome from Cindy from the rental company, to the moment we had to unfortunately leave. The private location is spectacular set among the trees in the mountains about 15 minutes from Boulder centre. The house is a design wonder with the interiors faithful to a house built in the 1970s but with modern amenities. We especially enjoyed sitting in the hot tub watching the stars and watching stars of another kind on the 80" TV in the cinema room. Some favourite moments were also spent lounging in the hammock and watching the abundant wildlife around the house. It really is as good as it looks in the photos - better even. A mid-century masterpiece!

    Reviewed by: Elite Traveler on

    Comment:

I've rented homes all of the world. From Tuscany to Greece to California to Colorado, and I must say "Barrett House" stood out the most. The home itself has a splendid history and Views Views Views. Designed by American Architect Charles Haertling built for famed weaver Clotilde Barrett. From the moment I opened the front door to this mid-century masterpiece, I felt as if went back in time with a odd feeling attached due to the updated appliances and tastefully designed and updated bathrooms. Stinning cork floors and we also learned that all of the new carpeting is made out of recycled plastic bottles.

I am a mid-century fanatic, so to be able to be in a home with an Adriane Pearsall sectional, Milo Baughman dining room table and chairs, the iconic Warren Platter chairs, an absolute highlight. The vintage Louis Vuitton hard cases in a guest bedroom were perfectly place. The owners left a magazine which featured the house, we all said it should be in Architectural Digest.

We were greeted by a lovely young lady who gave us a full tour of the home and how things worked. The first day I became a bit lost in the house, as it has three leves with the main level bosting a spectacular circular staircase which I went around twice figuring out where I was. We spent almost every night in the movie theater which has a sectional we were told upholstered with recycled saris from India. The kitchen was easy to work in and the views of the valley from the seamless windows were breathtaking. The beds were all very comfortable and the linens quite luxurious. The entire house was comfortable. I must also say the housekeeping was immaculate, we used the house keeper once ourselves, her team was professional.

My friends and I spent most mornings hiking the property which we found out was surrounded by a State Park. We literally opened the kitchen door and was greeted by a trail that led to the top of a mountain with views of Denver and the end of the earth.

This was both a business and pleasure trip. The reason I mention this, is because the house has an office with computer and printer, so I was able to get my work done without having to go to an off site location.

We loved the house, and the ease of getting into town. Pearl Street being 15 minutes away. The ride to and from the house was also breathtaking.

I only have the highest praise for "Barrett House" the one disappointment was that the pinball machine did not operate. Granted vintage.

I was in touch several times with the owners prior to our arrival. Both very hospitable and kind.

I am in awe of this house and will definitely return.
A rare rental on a market saturated with mediocre wannabe mid-century homes. If you are considering this as a rental, I highly recommend it.

My wife and I feel so lucky to have been able to spend five days in this really special property. The house is very spacious, with great views in so many directions (and with deer wandering outside). We spent an evening sitting on the porch with a bottle of wine looking at the stars. The house is a designer's gem--with so many details in the design and furnishing, that even after spending five days in the house, my wife asked if I saw the great wall paper in the shower The house has every amenity we could think of, including that 80" threatre screen downstairs. The shelves were filled with goodies to eat, flavored coffee and tea, chips, etc. And despite all these wonderful features, perhaps the one that surprised me the most (having rented house in several states on several occasions) was how responsive and how accommodating the owner was. We requested early check-in and voila, they moved some things around and made it happen. There was a storm in Boulder that knocked the wifi out, and voila, the owner was on the phone with Comcast to get it restarted, and sent me direction on how to reboot. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this lovely get away.
