    -- THE LOCATION --

Winter Park is wonderfully outgoing while still maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere - It's easy to see why it's been named 2018's best ski resort in North America by USA Today! The ski base of Winter Park is only 2 miles from the property, and there's a shuttle bus service every 20 minutes to take you directly to and from the slopes. This shuttle service starts early in the morning, so you can take advantage of the fresh powder, and runs until 10:00 pm during ski season. You'll love spending time at Winter Park's newly renovated ski base, which now has many more shops, fine eateries, and a Starbucks.

If you need a break from the ski slopes, be sure to check out the winter tubing hill in Fraser only 2 miles away on State 40, or rent a snowmobile for the day in the area. Unsurprisingly, the possibilities for winter fun are endless here!

During the warmer months, Winter Park's hiking and biking trails become significant attractions, as well as trout fishing on the Fraser River, which is conveniently right in front of the building! You'll also find exceptional fishing on the Colorado River and a great catch-and-release spot just north of the condo, about a 10-minute walk away.

If you're in the mood for adventure, spend a day exploring the groomed walking and extensive biking trails near the condo, or drive 40 minutes to access the south entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. The town of Grand Lake can be reached in just 25 minutes, as well as Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby. Golf enthusiasts should definitely play a round over at Pole Creek Golf Course located 15 minutes away, or at one of the other area golf courses within 30 minutes of the condo.

Be sure to check the Winter Park Channel for the many festivals in and around town - you never know what might be happening during your trip!

Approximately 40 minutes north is the Hot Sulphur Springs Spa, located at the entrance of Byers Canyon in Hot Sulphur Springs. This facility is open year-round and is highly recommended (call the resort for daily pricing)! If you need a getaway from your getaway, try a short jaunt over to Glenwood Springs via Amtrak train - the terminal is located only 2 miles to the north in Fraser. This area is noted for its phenomenal cross-country skiing and horseback riding, and sleigh rides are available at Snow Mountain Ranch just 15 minutes away.

Another notable attraction is the Grand Park Community Recreation Center, which is located approximately 0.75 miles from the condo on the west side of U.S. 40 between Winter Park and Fraser and is complete with a lap pool, water slide, climbing wall, gymnasium and work out room. This state-of-the-art facility is highly recommended after a long day on the slopes. Check out their website for daily rates and hours of operation, and remember to bring your own locks and towels.

Cozy spot on bus line, but unit was cluttered

    Reviewed by: Dan K. on

    Comment:

This unit has been updated and is overall a nice place in a nice location, which is also right next to a stop for the ski bus. However, it is incredibly cluttered with way too many trinkets, decorations, a couple chairs that just take up space, and WAY TOO MANY kitchen supplies. The cabinets were all packed to the gills. It was really claustrophobic feeling, and it made the space feel poorly utilized, as every nook and cranny is packed with something, most of which is completely unnecessary for a unit that can realistically only hold two adults and two small children. Somebody really needs to throw at least half of that stuff away, and it would feel like a much better utilized space. The building is quiet with decent views from the front door, and the newly renovated rec center at Hi Country Haus is both awesome and a short walk away from this unit. We would totally stay here again, if somebody just went in and sensibly removed the clutter.

Arrival was smooth and all instructions sent before our trip were perfect. My first impressions of the condo were that it was old and needed updating but it definitely grew on me throughout our stay as the perfect size "cozy" place to spend a few nights in Winter Park for a couple. It would have been too small with kids and all the gear that goes with skiing. We explored Winter Park and everywhere we ate was reasonably priced and ski town appropriate. The torchlight parade down the mountain on Christmas Eve followed by a church service after was the perfect way to spend the holiday. We went grocery shopping the day before at Safeway in Fraser and stayed in our jammies all day Christmas Day. We had to go out for more firewood but other than that enjoyed the cable TV, very large fireplace and had all the cooking supplies we needed to prepare Christmas dinner. We received a flyer on our door one day advertising firewood delivery. His prices were actually cheaper than Safeway but we didn't receive a call back. Probably because of the holiday. The hot water in the condo is almost instant and there is a heat lamp and fan in the bathroom. Small things that as I mentioned, made the place grow on me :) We bought an ice scraper for the windshield at Safeway as the rental car did not have one in it. Well worth the $1.49 but made friends in the parking lot with other neighbors borrowing theirs before we made the purchase. I also met the cleaning crew in the parking lot, husband and wife team, very nice. They were very complimentary of the owner of this condo and inquired if they could do anything to make our stay more enjoyable. We left a Safeway grocery discount card with the general instructions sheet for future guests. Came in handy as we do not have Safeway grocery stores where we are from. I was really looking forward to enjoying the outdoor hot tub but ultimately didn't even go to the rec center because although it is a very short drive, would have been too cold to walk and didn't want to mess with getting into the car wet. Overall, very memorable and happy stay. *Originally posted on Homeaway/VRBO for a stay in December 2016

    Comment:

This unit was priced lower than comparable units, and it was nicely equipped for a very comfortable stay. This is why I gave it a solid 4 stars. Other units may be fancier or more modern, but they also tend to "price out" a family looking for a weekend get-away. We had 2 adults and 2 kids in the unit, which was tight but do-able. The kitchen was stocked nicely, and the pool and hot tub amenities were fun at the end of the day. The bus times were erratic, but the bus stop and drop off were very convenient locations. We ordered delivery pizza and watched movies one night in the condo, and we went out another night. Easy to get to and home from the slopes. Will stay here again.

Sparkling clean! Very comfortable beds, well-appointed (cozy) kitchen, short walk to the rec center with hot tubs. A map of the complex with our check-in e-mail would have been helpful since the buildings are numbered randomly and 14 was hard to find at night. Ski shuttle bus picks up right outside the building. We'd come back again.

The location is quite convenient - walking distance to town and a few minutes drive to the slopes. Also, the free, town shuttle comes right by the unit, if you would rather use it.

The condo is well furnished and is large enough for 2 adults. $ adults would be crowded.

We did have a small problem with lights burning out in the dressing area. The owner took care of this in short order.

We recommend this place for a nice stay at Winter Park.

Condo is compact but nicely furnished and well equipped with appliances and cooking gear. Queen bed was comfortable. Situated less than 1 mile from town. There is a recreation hall with pool and hot tub. There is a convertable couch with a queen sized bed. The unit would be tight for 4 adults.

The building units in this condo complex are numbered, but in order of completion rather than by spatial order. this could be confusing. Building 14 was next to numbers 25 and 5. During the day there is a rental agent in an office at the beginning of the complex who supplied me with a map. At night the building would be hard to find.
