    THE PROPERTY

With 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and enough sleeping arrangements for 9 guests throughout 1,800 square feet of tastefully appointed living space, this 2-level residence is the perfect size and layout for families traveling together. The Schooner House is actually a charming farm house that was originally built in 1900, described by previous guests as roomy, cute, kid-friendly, homey, and private. You'll find the home's interior decorated in a nautical beach cottage theme, complete with all new drywall and stocked with all the amenities you need to be as relaxed as possible during your stay, including window air conditioning in the bedrooms, nice linens, wireless internet access and cable TV for your entertainment, and a living room with plenty of space for the entire family. Sleeping arrangements include 3 queen-sized beds, 2 of which are upstairs and 1 downstairs, 2 twin-sized beds on the upper level, an air mattress for extra guests, and a pack-n-play for little ones. A separate kitchen and dining area come equipped with all the necessary supplies for delicious home-cooked meals and fun family dinners. Sip your morning coffee on the front porch or outside on the expansive back deck, which offers deck chairs, chaise lounges, a 4-person patio table, and a gas grill. The backyard is quite large and very private, ideal for simply enjoying the spring blossoms or plucking fruit from the lovely apple tree in the fall. You can sit on the deck and watch rabbits munch apples in the yard - the kids will love having a front-row seat for wildlife viewing! There's a fire pit in the backyard as well, where you can roast some tasty s'mores and tell stories after the sun goes down.

    THE LOCATION

Located just outside the downtown area of Traverse City only 1.5 miles away in Greilickville, you'll find that Schooner House is the perfect home base for all kinds of activities and area attractions. From here, you'll be walking distance from the marina and less than 1 mile from the West End Beach on West Bay. There are also several restaurants, Traverse Tall Ship sailing outings, and the Great Lakes Children's Museum all within minutes of this home. You'll love the fact that you can hop on the nearby TART bike trail and cycle right into town without being in traffic! After a busy day of activities, walk just 2 minutes down the road to enjoy a drink outside on the water at Apache Trout and Grill - you won't find a more pleasant or convenient way to unwind!

Sailing on Grand Traverse Bay is a definite highlight in the area, and both Tall Ship Manitou and Sailing Yacht Scout offer wonderful options for getting out on the water. Schooner House is located 15 minutes away from Suttons Bay, 30 minutes from Leland, and 30 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore, which boasts stunning beaches, 500-foot-high dunes, and a multitude of hiking trails, certain to please even the most discerning outdoor enthusiasts. Traverse City is a real "foodie" town, complete with a large selection of excellent restaurants, dozens of wineries, and microbreweries, many of which are within a mile from the property. You'll also have easy access to Traverse City's summer festivals, beaches, shopping, and more. It's an older house, so it has some of that charm, very comfy and inviting living room, lots of room at the dining room table. Kitchen is a *little* on the small side. We had a little plumbing situation and the owners were easy to reach and quick to repair it. We were 6 adults up for a color tour. Goos location, though it is surrounded by mostly businesses, not in a neighborhood Would stay at this house again.

We absolutely loved our 4 night stay at the schooner house. There were 8 of us staying there for a wedding in town and it was perfect. It's deceiving, but the house has a ton of room. The bathrooms are quite big and the bedrooms upstairs are large as well. The house had everything we needed to cook with. The yard is large and had sweet little bunnies hopping around. It was clean and well taken care of. We met the owner, Dave, and we was very nice and checked up to make sure everything met our expectations. He is the owner of the tall ship tours and their workshop is also on the property, so you will want to make sure not to block their shop in the back with your vehicles. The few times someone stopped by, we chatted them up and they were super nice. It took us a few different pizza places to find one that delivers....make sure you use Mancinos. A couple of us went to the Apache Trout grill and they had nothing but great things to say about the food and service and you can walk there. Loved it and would definitely rent again!

Inside the house was a very nice and clean place to stay. The house manager was quick to reply back with our concerns or requests. Only thing I did not care for was the grape vine overgrowth on the deck. It makes it look sloppy. Both decks had bees and hornet nests, but the grounds crew did spray them when we contacted them about it. Unfortunately, a guest did get stung and we couldn't use the decks as we would have liked. I also wished the grounds crew would put away the garden hose when they were finished watering. It is a safety hazard to leave it laying in the walkway to the deck. Overall, the house is a convenient place to stay for a reasonable price.

What a fun couples weekend! Spent Friday at Right Brain and Rare Bird breweries then Saturday on a wine tour through the Leelanau Penn. stopping at Northern Latitudes, L. Mawby, 45 North and Hop Lot via Grand Traverse Tours. Later that night we ventured out to Brew, Low Bar, and Mackinac Brewing (using Uber of course!). The house was perfect for our size group and had everything we needed. Will be renting again in the future and telling all of our friends! Only thing was we couldn't find the trash bins upon departure so my sister took a few bags home in her truck - no biggie. Can't wait to come back! -Mia

We came to stay at this house for our annual anniversary trip with 3 other couples. The house was very close to downtown, wineries and TART Trail. The queen beds were comfy and it was nice not to have to bring our own towels and sheets. I gave it 4 stars because the twin beds in the smallest bedroom were tiny for our 6' tall friend. Also, the wifi went out so that we didn't have internet connection or cable. We did make use of the DVD selection, however. Overall, we would rent this house again!

The house is is very cute and charming! The pictures do not do it justice. All of the bedrooms were very comfortable and offered ample space for everyone. The living and dining rooms were large and easily accommodated our group of seven. The bathrooms were clean. I wasn't sure if there were extra towels or not, but I am sure that is something that could easily be asked for. The house is located very close to downtown Traverse City. You could definitely walk there is the summer, or cab would be very cheap as well. I went for a run from the home and there is a nice little trail right down the street to jump onto. One of the days I ran towards down and ran through the adorable neighborhoods in the area. My family and I went wine tasting on towards Sutton's Bay and on Mission Peninsula. The location was very close to both places. *This review was originally posted on VRBO for a stay in Dec-15

This property was exactly as described. It was even larger on the inside than the pictures showed. The hosts had clean towels, separate A/C units in every room, and a large back yard. The property is located right across the street from Lake Michigan, and a few blocks away from Tom's Grocery Store. Kitchen was fully stocked with various cooking equipment and utensils and plenty of hot water for 8 people. There was a propane grill on the deck, fire pit with wooden seats, and lots of outdoor seating. I would highly recommend this property for large groups especially since it is less than a 5 minute drive from downtown Traverse.

After entering the home, it became apparent how well kept and clean this property is. Plus, plenty of space for us to stretch out and relax; such a comfortable and quiet area of town. Very convenient to get to the grocery store and all the fun activities around town. Weather didn't permit to spend time grilling on the deck, or to have a fire in the pit (snow in May - got to love Michigan). I would definitely book another stay here in the future!

This was my first VRBO experience, and it was an excellent choice. We were in Traverse City from downstate for a wedding. The 4 bedrooms gave us and our 3 grown children (2 have moved from Michigan to other states) the ideal spot to all be under the same roof for a wonderful family weekend. What a better option than 4 separate hotel rooms! The only negative was the surprising absence of a corkscrew in the otherwise very well-equipped kitchen. That was turned into a positive as we all enjoyed watching the clever actions of one of our sons. He put the bottom of the wine bottle into a shoe to cushion it and repeatedly tapped it on the deck rail until the cork worked its way out. I expect the owner will see this review and make sure a corkscrew is there for future guests :-)
