We have traveled to many places and never has a home been more welcoming. You?ll find privacy surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes and a house equipped with everything you could need. There is a folder on the table you should read because it has great suggestions and helpful hints. We spend a week at the cabin and it was not enough to visit and see everything. We loved the fishing, went with Acquired Tastes Rafting (highly recommend them, smaller company), you can?t miss the goat farm, Mt. Princeton Hot Sprigs was great as was St. Elmo. If you want to go and look for gold, don?t go with Dennis O?Neill (pick the other place recommended in ?the folder?) unless you want to be invited into his trailer and meet an interesting character. The O?Neill family has rented the property out and I have left information in the book as to whom to contact. We had a great time at the cabin, fell in love with Hartsel, CO. and hope to return soon.

We stayed 2 nights in this cabin. There were 4 of us so the 2 bedrooms was perfect! I slept in the smaller (but still with plenty of space) bedroom with the king size memory foam sleep number bed and it was literally like sleeping on clouds! The cabin is roomy with up to date appliances, but still has the rustic cabin feel. The view of the valley is absolutely gorgeous especially with the sunset!! The kitchen is loaded with everything you need for to cook or make drinks. We spent our first day driving around and exploring the scenery, then we went to the Cottonwood Hot Springs. If you've never been to any Hot Springs...you really don't know what you're missing. It was absolutely AMAZING!! The next day we took a bit of drive to Breckenridge and took a Gondola ride up the mountain where they had all kinds of activities like Alpine slides, zip lining, mountain biking, mini golf, beer, food, ect. Our time in the mountains was much too short so we'll probably stay longer next time and we would not hesitate to stay here again! Matt was the best host I've had in all the many times I've used Homeaway or Airbnb! He was available via text or call and always answered right away. They also have a great book at the cabin outlining what the area has to offer for activities and dining. I would give this experience 20/5 if I could!

We had an amazing vacation and stay this cabin in the Rockies. The cabin is in a perfect location that has all activities within driving distance yet far enough away that you are not on top of people to still have a secluded feel. All major ski towns are less than an hour away and there are plenty of mountain mining towns with activities near by for exploring as well. We brought our 3 kids and family dog and they all loved it. There was plenty of exploring to do on the 4 acres that accompany the ranch. The kids were able to sled and enjoy the snow without having to travel anywhere to do so and we were able to be comfortable with them being outside on their own. The cabin was very clean and accommodating for our family of 5. There were plenty of condiments and necessities already stocked which was a huge help as well. We also left a few things behind as well for the next customer! The cabin has amazing views of the mountains and was enjoyable watching the sunsets with the family. We will be coming back to this cabin in the near future to see what the other seasons have to offer as I am sure there will be plenty to do in the warmer months as well.

Views were 360 and private. House itself very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. Wood burning stove is terrific, plenty of wood to burn and more than adequate heat. Owner Matt was awesome reaching out to see if we needed anything. Other than a quirky TV remote, there isn't a thing I could add on the negative side. Great cabin and amenities!

    Reviewed by: Anonymous on

    Comment:

The cabin is really nice with great amenities. Lots of tv's, washer/dryer in the cabin, lots of sitting space. We really didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin. We spent most if our time exploring Colorado, then coming back at night to fix a quick dinner. The kitchen is a fully functioning work space. It has LP gas stove and oven, big fridge, microwave, toaster, a traditional coffee maker and a Kuerig machine. The only downside was in the pictures it showed a dishwasher, but no dishwasher listed in the cabin's list of amenities. When we were ready to fill the dishwasher, we opened it up and two signs inside said it was out of order and that we had to the dishes "the old fashioned way". Not a big deal as we used limited dishes. But would have been nice for convenience. The last thing that was negative but totally NOT the owners fault, but maybe should have been warned. The roads to the cabin are NOT paved. They also have ripples in the road every 2 inches (either by design or by snow maintenance vehicles). This makes the final ride to the cabin VERY unpleasant, by shaking and rattling your car until it almost falls apart. But, otherwise I give the cabin a 9 out of 10 stars. The owners are very helpful and really want you to have a great, relaxing time.

This was our first stop on our honeymoon in Colorado, and it certainly set the bar high! The cabin is perfect, you have post card views from every window in the town. It's a short drive from Buena Vista which is a really cool town, with some good places to eat. Everything was extremely clean, tidy, and organized. The wood stove was awesome, I was very surprised by how warm it kept the cabin on windy and snowy nights (they do have central heat as well). Really the only thing better than the cabin itself, were the owners. They were the most HELPFUL and Accomodating rental property owners I have ever dealt with. They literally thought of everything. For folks not familiar with the area, they have a binder full of information for you. While they were very helpful they were NOT over bearing over their beautiful home. They made it clear it was ours for the weekend, and gave us our privacy. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. We will be back!

My 12 year old daughter was blown away by the animals that she saw in the wild like reindeer and white bunnies. My eldest son said it was the best vacation ever. I was blown away by the snow capped mountains. Matt and his wife Carol definitely have a special place in the Colorado mountains. A must see. *This review was originally posted on VRBO for a stay in Dec-15

This was the perfect spot for our annual Colorado vacation. We've spent a lot of time in the state, and found Hartsel perfectly located between all of our favorite activities, including horseback riding, ATV trail riding, and more. The cabin is beautifully situated on top of a hill, and we loved the views. The home was immaculate, and most importantly, had nice beds, sheets, pillows, with extras on hand, as well as comfy furniture. We've missed this in other properties (flat pillows, cheap mattresses, old broken couches, etc). Pride in ownership abounds, including details on how to work anything in the cabin, as well as great TV channel options, netflix - whatever comforts from home you're used to. The best owners we've dealt with, including making sure we arrived comfortably (and an offer to check in early!), but then leaving us to our vacation, while being only a phone call away. We can't wait to return.

Had a WONDERFUL stay and really enjoyed our time. The cabin is located a short drive from Buena Vista which has great restaurants, a grocery store, coffee shops, THE BEST white water rafting (from what I hear since we were unable to participate) and much more. The area, also, has some of CO prime hiking from multiple 14'ers to easy lake hikes. We did the Denny trail and were blown away by the views.

When we weren't outside enjoying the amazing views and what the area has to offer, we enjoyed relaxing in the cabin. The new foam mattresses provided some of the best sleep that I've ever had. Matt & Carol have provided everything you need to cook and eat at the cabin (which we did often so we could watch the Royals win the World Series). We, also, greatly enjoyed the fireplace! With the cabin's open layout, the fireplace does an exquisite job heating up the WHOLE cabin. We had a few chilly nights but never noticed.

Matt was the best host. I really appreciated his efforts to ensure we are comfortable and didn't need anything. I have already recommended this cabin to friends and hope to make another trip out here in the future.

The location was great for the activities we planned (Horseback Riding, Hot Springs, Royal Gorge, Whitewater Rafting, Fishing, Hiking, etc. etc. !!!) . The cabin was clean and comfortable. We made a nice fire outside under the MILLIONS of stars! It was just so cool! The cabin was very clean and well maintained. Beautiful views and plenty of space! The price was very reasonable - very reasonable!

Our host, Matt, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. It was very helpful to us. I texted Matt several times during our stay with various questions and he was right there at the other end of the text each time.

We ski every year (usually in Colorado), but had never been to this part of the state. We chose this late in the ski season to accommodate our 2 grade school age daughters' spring break.

4 adults and 2 children stayed in this beautiful mountain home for 5 days and never felt crowded. Very comfortable. Fully stocked. Great views. We had the feeling of really being "out there", but about 20 min. drive from towns in either direction that had restaurants, gas, grocery, etc. Two ski mountains within a comfortable drive. Ski Cooper and Monarch mountain are priced right for families and not too far from this property. Beautiful scenery makes the drive fly by. We always saw something different each time we passed.

Plenty of wildlife; whether it was the hawk soaring over the valley that this cabin overlooks or the red fox in the meadow or the deer that came to the side yard to feed, there was always something going on.

Memory foam mattresses were a nice touch. Humidifiers were great (skiers- you know what I'm talking about).

Owners were available whenever we had a question. Very responsive and only wanted us to enjoy our stay.

We loved it! You will too. I challenge you to find better owners and a better price!

I travel for work all the time. Since I am on the road so much, my standards for places to stay is much higher then the average person. I had a few days between conventions, so I decided to spend a few days in the Buena Vista Area. This cabin came up, and fit the dates I needed.

The cabin was totally amazing. It is in a rural neighborhood, right on top of a hill. There are other houses around, but nothing close. It feels secluded and cozy. It is perched on the edge of a hill, overlooking a beautiful valley.

Inside was clean and comfy. The sitting room was a perfect place for me to sit and work. A lot of places in the mountains dont have internet. This had WIFI that worked well the entire time. The kitchen had all the equipment needed to do all your own cooking.

The bedrooms were very comfortable, and had stunning views. The beds are memory foam, so I slept great every night.

I used the wood stove to heat the cabin, while I was there. However, the house is usually heated by propane, and it keeps the entire place very comfortable all night.

It was decorated very nicely. Some places can be over the top, and not feel like home. This had a warm cozy feel to it.

The best part of all was the owners. Matt was very responsive, answered every question I txted, and went way over and above his call of duty. In fact, I accidentally left a few minor things on the front porch, while I was locking up, and he offered to send the items back to me.

I will totally be back. I enjoyed this place so much, that I will bring friends and family when I go next. And I won't be staying here when it fits between conventions. Next time, I will be making a dedicated trip. It was that nice.

"Exceeded our expectations! The Owner contacted me prior to our arrival by email and then by phone to welcome us! He is new to this, but sure was helpful in every way. We will definitely be retuning! SO relaxing. Just one thing that I'd change is that the back bedroom needs darker curtains to block the sun from waking us so early ;-). "

the area was so beautiful, the cabin was extremely welcoming. I will be returning every year. If you are wanting just a much needed peaceful beautiful restful vacation or just a couple miles down the road you could be rafting, or panning for gold. Truly the best vacation to date.
