City: Glen Rose, Texas Property ID: 216730

grand total: From $209 total Per Night

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This 2-bedroom, 2-bath vacation rental house that sleeps 4 has been designated as a Historic Landmark by the City of Glen Rose, Texas and updated in 2013. Situated on a half-acre, elevated bluff, 15-feet above the meandering Paluxy River, this hideaway is just blocks from many of the area’s favorite attractions, yet secluded enough for you to relax and recharge! You also have the option to rent the 1-bedroom bungalow for an additional fee.

    -- THE PROPERTY --

Master Bedroom: King Bed | Bedroom 2: Queen Bed | Additional Sleeping (Bungalow - Optional with Fee): Queen Bed

The house was built in the early 1950's on the site of the Grisham Pool - the first "cement swimming hole" in Glen Rose. The sides of the original pool are still there and now form the sides of the driveway.

This recently-renovated (2013) hideaway features all of the charm of an original 1950s, single-story ranch style home, made over in comfortable, casual cottage-style. The main property can sleep up to 4 guests comfortably, but groups also have the option to add the 1BR bungalow on-site to accommodate 2 additional guests. The home includes all the new must-have technical conveniences including Wifi, HD Smart TVs with satellite TV, Hulu Plus account access plus a Blu-Ray DVD player and finished it off with a nice on-site library of DVDs for all to enjoy.

There's even an 8 ft picnic-table for your outdoor feasts and comfy chairs in the newly added, bug-free screened-in back porch which enjoys a view of the Paluxy River and tree tops from its lofty perch. If it is family time, there is a special area for board-game challenges! You definitely won't run out of things to do. Or, you can choose to do nothing and return home relaxed, recharged and refreshed.

The kitchen is fully equipped with brand new appliances (2013), flatware and table setting for twelve. A full complement of pots, pans, cooking utensils and more is ready for your use. The two renovated bedrooms feature new mattresses (purchased in November 2013); a King-sized bed in the Master Bedroom and a Queen-sized bed in the guest bedroom. Both bathrooms have also been recently remodeled, keeping a few key elements of the past (see the black and pink master-bath!) while updating all the fixtures. A full laundry (washer and dryer, ironing board and iron) is on-site if you want to return home with all clean clothes!

The views from the home are wonderful and relaxing. A recently completed 20-foot wall of windows looks out over trees, plants and the Paluxy River across the street.

    -- THE LOCATION --

Two blocks west of the home is the historic downtown Glen Rose square anchored by the Courthouse and surrounded with two museums, two art galleries, shopping, dining (including the best pies in the state - really!) and even foods sold farm fresh from local growers. Two blocks east home is the popular Big Rocks Park where, during summer, the Paluxy River is ready for you to enjoy whether you're splashing, fishing or just relaxing. Or, take the concrete footbridge and walk safely across the Paluxy River to historic Heritage Park where homes of the original Glen Rose are on display for all to see and enjoy.

On the opposite side of the street from Big Rocks Park is Glen Rose's own Oakdale Park, home of the free Bluegrass Jam music-fest! Come enjoy great Bluegrass music - search online for their schedule of events. If your stay includes the kids, we're centrally located for major local attractions like Fossil Rim, Dinosaur World and Dinosaur State Park. Each are just a few miles away by car. This home can be the perfect base-camp for your relaxing weekend away in the historic town of Glen Rose!

We had the best time over spring break staying at this adorable house. It was the cleanest vacation home I have ever stayed at. Spotless! The house was so accommodating and had everything we needed. The owner has such thorough and detailed instructions for his guests it makes things so easy. The beds were quite comfortable, everyone slept very well while we were there which is always a plus for us with little kids. Our puppy and kids loved the property and they were all worn out by night time. We would definitely rent again. The house décor is tasteful, electic… very well done. There are some great pieces of furniture!

Maybe we will bring our child next time...maybe :-) Make sure to check out the orange book in the second bedroom with life stories from a hill country resident.(wish I could remember the name) It was a fun, interesting read

My wife and I have rented many properties around the world and are quite discriminating when it comes to spending money on vacation rentals. Comfort, cleanliness, convenience and service quality are critical for us when choosing a location for a brief weekend or long-term vacation.

To this point, we searched for a cute place that would accommodate us and another couple over the 2016 Labor Day weekend. Our search radius was a four hour drive from the DFW Metroplex. Fortunately, we came across this wonderful property in quaint Glen Rose.

To say that the property exceed our expectations would be an understatement. The superb experience began well before our arrival in Glen Rose. The owners were gracious enough to forward us documentation regarding the operations of the house, favorite restaurants, and many sights and activities in the area. The documentation (alone) was more comprehensive than I've seen from any other property owner.

In addition to great documentation, was a wonderfully decorated, pristine property that was perfect for the two couples. Upon arrival, we surveyed the property and couldn't believe how well stocked it was. From kitchen utensils, to chilled drinks in the refrigerator and bath linens galore, the house was better stocked than any property that we've rented. Beyond being extraordinarily stocked, the house was immaculate.

So, needless to say, we're big fans of the property and will look forward to this new find in the near future!

This is the second home of Nelson's that we've rented. As always, Nelson's properties are head-and-shoulders above the rest, and his warm hospitality add to the pleasure of the stay. This home is steps from the big rocks park, with its attached walking path to a lovely playground. It is also minutes from the walking district of Glen Rose. But that's assuming you can drag yourself away from the house itself. It sits on a ridge with a lovely view and breeze from its spacious back porch and yard. The inside is luxurious as it gets, with something beautiful to touch or look at on every wall and around every corner. No detail is overlooked, from a soft throw blanket on the couch, lamps right where you need them, deluxe sheets, and even a nice selection of movies, games and such. We'll be back for sure.

This was perfect, it was minutes from out reunion location, best beds for a good night's sleep, the a/c was on when we arrived. There are dishes, spices, etc for cooking. Plenty of pillows, fluffy towels, shower supplies for you to use, so if you forget anything - it is most likely provided. If not - there is a guide (also sent to you in an email so you know ahead of time). The guide includes places to eat (owner's personal recommendations), local grocery, hospital, activities. If you stay in, there are a few games provided, nice televisions, plenty of room for your belongings.

While sitting on the screened in back porch, the view was lush, quiet and relaxing. As we did not use the fire pit, it was a nice touch to the natural landscaping of the backyard. The bathrooms although beautifully nostalgic offered modern facilities and everything you may need in case you forgot something. You couldn't ask for a more comfortable bed to sleep in with pillow topped mattresses and fresh, clean sheets that smelled fantastic! The WiFi and Hulu Plus on the Smart TV was just enough technology that we needed. The Guide was VERY detailed and offered us good information from the in's and out's of the house to dining and recreational activities that helped us plan our day. All in all, we truly felt comfortable and "at home" here and will definitely make a visit back to the Hideaway in Glen Rose!

"My friend invited me for a girls weekend. We had a fabulous time. This home is top-notch! This home features luxury linens and towels, comfy beds, snacks, sodas, fully stocked kitchen, amazing screened-in porch, equipped with the latest technology and much more. We could not have asked for anything more. The owners have thought of all the extra touches. Our party really enjoyed the screened-in porch and spent lots of time there in the evenings.
The town is quaint and friendly. We enjoyed time in Glen Rose and Granbury in each of their town squares. There was several events going on when we were there. Always something to-do and something for everyone. This was a perfect girls weekend location!"

You can not pass up this home! It is the best rental home I have ever stayed in. We used this home for a girls weekend getaway. The home is beautifully decorated and comfortable - I was very impressed. Here are the highlights of the home: most comfortable bed I have ever slept on, high thread count sheets, thick plush towels, free snacks including soda, chips, cookies, etc., Hulu plus, screened-in porch, nice toiletries in case you forgot something, a discount card available for groceries. The house was immaculate and everything smelled fresh and clean. I enjoyed this home more than my own home! The guide that the owners provided was very helpful. It included everything you needed to know and good information about restaurants, things to do and features of the house. In every home that I have stayed in before they expected us to start the laundry, strip all the beds and do the dishes. Not here! All of that is taken care of for you! We had so much fun during our stay. We enjoyed exploring Glen Rose and Granbury. Enjoyed some yummy food, shopped at the town square in both towns, enjoyed some Texas wine at one of the local wineries too! We intended to go out Saturday night but the screened-in porch was calling our names! We went back to the house and played a game and enjoyed wine and drinks on the porch for 4 hours! We spent most of our time at the house in the backyard or on the porch. So relaxing and quiet. Nice to get away from the city and enjoy this small town with lots of charm! There are tons of things to-do as a family too. I will definitely be back!

I visited the property for a long weekend with my 8 and 11 year old boys. This is a beautifully done home, with an old-time feel and modern technology. Was very comfortable, clean and quiet. The back screened porch is a delight for reading, thinking or just watching the kids play. The beds are extremely comfortable and cozy. Nelson and CJ have thought of every provision you may need but might have left at home, and their generosity is apparent. The home is very close to most local activities and wonderful places to eat/shop. The guide provided by Nelson and CJ is very helpful and thorough, from where to find things within the home, how to work the technology, and places to visit and eat. We were able to do so many things but also have time to relax and enjoy the view. In addition to what is in the guide, I would recommend that you visit the "Brazos Drive-in" movie - double feature at a very reasonable price. My boys were able to jump in a play soccer with the many children that were playing in the field in front of the screen prior to the movies. Was a great time! This is a place that should become a regular destination for your vacation or "stay-cation" for those close to home.

Beautiful cottage that feels like home!

Wow, what a wonderful place to stay and relax! We felt at home the moment we walked in. We have stayed in many cabins and cottages in the US and in Europe, but this one is a real treat.

It didn۪t feel like a rental home at all, it was like good friends left us their home over the weekend. The cabin is beautifully decorated and literally has everything we could ever think of - and more! From snacks to drinks to toiletries, dish soap, detergent, fluffy towels, nice linens, napkins even dog treats it۪s all there. We didn۪t even need to make a trip to the store to get things we felt should be there۝ CJ and Nelson really thought of everything.

It is apparent that the owners truly care about their guests. The dinner table is set with place mats and cloth napkins, another table is set up with games, the patio is inviting with comfy furniture, plants and view to the river. The kitchen is stacked with pretty china, silver ware and an abundance of cooking utensils.

Before we arrived, we received a very helpful 24 page guide filled with details on how to get to the cottage, great suggestions where to eat and what to do, what to bring and what is already there, how to work the remotes, contact information for CJ and Nelson and so much more.

This is the perfect place to relax and unwind! Thank you, CJ and Nelson, for creating this little oasis!
