Want to get away to the East Coast but not sure you want to get sucked into the big city? What if you could have peace and serenity in the beautiful countryside, all while having easy access to major cities such as New York City, Boston, Hartford, and Providence?
Come experience the splendor of rural northeastern Connecticut by staying in this uniquely historic, beautiful 6-bedroom home located on 4.3 acres of pristine, partially wooded stonewalled grounds. The structure was originally built as a dairy barn, but completely renovated into a house in the late 1970s. The homeowners live in an separate, isolated part of the house so they are available for anything you need. The house was more recently updated with modernized fixtures, air conditioning, new kitchen equipment, a resurfaced and extended driveway, and a relined in-ground 40-foot swimming pool. You’ll fall in love with the glorious, classic 40’x96’ post and beam structure – it’s aesthestically pleasing, and will prove very comfortable for you and your travel companions. You can still see the original framing as well as the 150-year-old weathered wood used for the walls of the kitchen, solarium, and the first floor bathroom. The master bedroom has a delightful cathedral ceiling, an attached privat bathroom, and a balcony, so you can walk outside and be among the treetops. Relax and read a book in the fully stocked library, complete with a cozy wood-burning fireplace (and a complimentary supply of firewood), or observe the picturesque wooded acres overlooked from the wall of windows in the solarium. There is a formal dining room as well as an informal dining room in the kitchen and attached entertainment area including a large chopping block with bar stools. During the warmer months, you’ll love lounging in the screened pool house adjacent to the L-shaped in-ground pool.
This home has plenty of room for dining, entertainment, and accommodations for all your family and friends. If you're out exploring the community, make sure you check out the local museums (such as the Ballard Puppet Museum or the Connecticut Natural History Museum), the Creamery Brook Bison Farm, and the Burgess Brook Alpaca Farm. There are also numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, birding, pet farms, river and stream paddling, fruit picking, and more. Whether you plan on using this home as your starting off point for excursions to the cities, or want to just relax to the fullest, you are sure to enjoy the privacy and little luxuries of rural lifestyle.

Every thing was perfect. We stayed two days because of a wedding of my daughter in the same town. If we can give any feed back regarding improvements is that the room most of the rooms need heavier curtains to keep it darker in the morning. The three rooms at the third level could need better lighting, but don't stop this from going.
My family enjoyed this home to come together and celebrate my mom's 60th Birthday. There was plenty of space for all and all the needed materials to make a great weekend. The owner was lovely as well.

We stayed in this lovely home for 5 days with our extended family for the occasion of our daughter's wedding at the nearby Golden Lamb Buttery. The home suited our needs perfectly! There was plenty of room for everyone and it was wonderful being together in a real home rather than a cramped hotel. The owner, Mary Beth, greeted us upon arrival like old friends! She made sure we had everything we could possibly need, including the few grocery items we had requested in advance. She showed around and explained the history of the converted barn which we loved learning about. We especially enjoyed walking around the grounds and relaxing on the back porch in the comfortable wicker chairs. Being in the area for a wedding was a busy, exciting time but having a great comfortable house to come back to every evening was a pleasure. Thank you, Mary Beth and Doug and I hope we meet again if we are back in the area.

We had a tremendous stay at the Barn. We took day trips to the aquarium in Mystic, CT., Boston, and even Maine. Doug and MaryBeth were great hosts. The home is very spacious and lots of room to roam outside. It was still a bit cool for us to use the pool, although it was open. It is very nice to have a Wal-mart close (less than 2 miles) but still be in a rural setting. Our biggest complaint would be that pictures on-line don't really do it justice. Also, MaryBeth made us a wonderful breakfast one morning. It is a great place to stay in New England.

About two weeks ago 5 of my closest friends and I stayed at this beautiful home for Valentine's Day Weekend. I was drawn to this place because we are originally from Brooklyn, NY. Upon arrival, Mary Beth gave us the grand tour and we automatically felt at home. The plan was to stay in, bond and cook and we did just that! The kitchen was huge and stocked with spices and utensils. We even used the grill outside despite the weather. The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Mary Beth was very helpful and her breakfast (blueberry pancakes, sausage and fruit) was delicious. On our last day, Mary Beth arranged for us to visit the Bison Farm, which was pretty cool. Needless to say we had an amazing stay here for a snowy weekend and it was great meeting Mary Beth and her husband. We cannot wait to visit again this summer!
We stayed here for three nights in July 2013. The house is huge, spotless, nestled in the woods on a beautiful and secluded property, very well-appointed with everything you might need, even with kids! The owner, Mary Beth is wonderful and so helpful and friendly. Her breakfast was top-notch! We had the quiche lorraine. Amazing! There are great roads in the area for running and bicycling. The pool and pool house were immaculate and super fun. If you need a babysitter, ask Mary Beth to connect you. She knows a fabulous one. I don't know if we will ever have an occasion that will bring us back to Brooklyn, but if we do, we will stay here again for sure.

MaryBeth was a lovely host. Her beautiful home was the perfect location for our ladies' weekend, and she made us feel welcome right away. She prepared a delicious breakfast for us on our first morning and told us the history of the converted barn that she and her talented husband built. The spacious kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and cutlery and was perfect for preparing group meals. All linens and toiletries were provided. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the pool, unfortunately, but it was very clean and had an adjacent screened in gazebo. This is a great space for getting some quiet time out in the country. With a nearby alpaca farm (Safe Haven), a delicious ice cream stop (We-Li-Kit), and a great lunch place (Vanilla Bean Cafe) all within a short driving distance, MaryBeth's home is perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway.
