We have been fortunate to have been able to rent via VRBO/HomeAway in the continental U.S., as well as outside of the U.S. Thankfully, each experience has been nothing short of wonderful. That being said, this property ? and its owner ? have provided the best rental experience, thus far. Quiet, magical, relaxing - with stunning views of the gorgeous Texas Hill Country. This lovely home is as portrayed in the photos provided?.beautiful, well maintained, and (unusually) well-stocked. If you have forgotten any basic necessities, you?ll find that you have been provided for by a thoughtful home owner/host, including snacks and various drinks made available upon arrival. This home also includes amenities such as washer/dryer, seamless/secure property access, and highly detailed home/area info packet provided by owner, etc. As seen, the Great Room is very comfortable, an area for families to play and reconnect?open and light-filled. You can fall into one of the relaxing seating areas with a lovely glass of wine and watch majestic birds with massive wing spans flying outside of the massive windows?simply breath-taking. This Great Room also includes a lengthy, formal dining table that seats ten+, opening to the well-appointed kitchen area, in which we were able to cook a full, Thanksgiving dinner. Sitting outside in the cool, early evenings was a treat as well. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax while enjoying time with loved ones. In addition, our Westies were welcome, which made our nephew very happy. A fairly short drive from Houston (approx 3.5 hours), we look forward to returning soon. The owner is available, detailed-oriented, and, could not have been more accommodating and organized. You will be well-rested and rejuvenated by the time you leave, and, you will certainly look forward to returning?as we do. Enjoy!

We were really pleased and fortunate to find such a beautiful vacation home, set in beautiful natural surroundings, and right next to the main attractions in the area - Fossil Rim and the Dinosaur Valley State Park. Our hosts were responsive and gracious; whether it was providing ideas for things to do in the area, prompting us to adjust our itinerary to the weather, or making sure the house was fully stocked upon arrival as a warm welcome. This is a well kept secret, and I look forward to visiting again soon.

A friend and I just left this property with our 4 kids (6-8) and two dogs. We wanted a getaway weekend from Fort Worth and this property was all that we hoped it would be: very convenient to get to, clean and comfortable, secluded and safe.

Glen Rose was also great. We ate at Coyote Loco, Library Cafe and a few other places and were happy with them all.

I would highly recommend this property and we will definitely be booking it again in the future for a getaway weekend.

As a business owner and single mother of three, it's hard most days to really unplug and connect. This home allowed us to do just that on our Spring Break. It is situated on a beautiful and peaceful property. My kids saw bunnies and many different birds, we watched the sun set and saw more stars in the night sky than they'd ever seen before! The home is close to everything but completely removed at the same time. Beds are very comfortable and house is fully stocked - even with snacks which came in so handy for hungry kids between meals. Highly recommend it!

The living room, dining room, kitchen area is open and HUGE - just perfect for us to be able to spend time together as a family and give the two boys room to play. The location is so peaceful and beautiful with a view to match. Donna and Nelson have thought of every detail to make your stay enjoyable - everything is labeled, explained, and the snacks/drinks are such a nice added touch. The house is very close to Fossil Rim and a short drive to downtown Glen Rose and Dinosaur World, all places we visited while there. I can't recommend this house enough and can't wait to return!

We chose this home for a trip with our adult children. We spent some quality time conversing, star gazing, playing games, eating wonderful home cooked meals, playing golf, hiking, visiting Fossil Rim, and relaxing at the Loco Coyote. There was not enough time to do everything we wanted and still be able to enjoy the peaceful surroundings this home has to offer. Our only problem was deciding if leaving for an activity was important enough to draw us away from the home. The view from the living room is stunning! The home has everything you could possibly need. Did I mention you cannot see or hear a neighbor at all? Only the sounds of nature are there to sooth you. We have often thought of purchasing a home with land for a weekend retreat. No need now, Donna and Nelson have done it for us. We enjoyed every minute of our time in Glen Rose and look forward to returning.

As many others have already mentioned the home is very well laid out and furnished with all the comforts of home. There is a great deal of detail in the decorating which made it fun for my wife and I to walk around and look at the interesting pieces.

My wife loves history and old books so she was extremely pleased with the Library!

We cannot wait to return when the weather is a tad bit warmer and visit some of the nearby attractions.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with our family!

Our family stayed at the Glen Rose house for a few days just before Christmas, to spend time together and escape the pre-holiday frenzy. We felt at home immediately, and although I can't say I have ever had a bad experience with VRBO, this was the most welcoming and accommodating place we have ever stayed. From great literature for reading to an overcoat for borrowing when the weather turned colder than expected, it was clear the owners had put thought into making us feel like guests rather than renters passing through. Thinking back on our visit makes me smile.

Every detail was perfect. Pictures really do not do this property justice. There are so many activities for outdoor lovers and Glen Rose is just a pristine little place. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is absolutely amazing. The kids loved Big Rocks Park and Dinosaur Valley State Park. We were treated very well by the home owner and everyone in the area. Great vacation memories!

The photos give an accurate picture of the house and surroundings, but the inside was even more beautiful than we expected. Very roomy downstairs area and lovely accessories. Very clean and well-stocked. Was close to all the attractions. Upstairs bedroom was roomy and nicely decorated, as well. We only had two couples and a small child in our group, so the arrangements were fine. The loft area could have accommodated even more people, but would have had to share the upstairs bathroom in the bedroom. The owner furnishes terrific directions and instructions, which made locating the property very easy. They also gave tips on other sights and restaurants, which was helpful. Great property. Only drawback was no outside grill (due to the recent droughts).

This home was the perfect get away place for my daughter and I. The owners obviously believe in doing everything top-notch, and will most definitely get a return visit from us. The home is located on twelve beautiful acres. It has gorgeous views, walking trails, and rocking chairs on the patio to enjoy the cool breeze. On one of our walks we saw many types of different birds in the trees. It was a lovely site. The owner was very helpful in accommodating us as our previously planned travels up north were canceled due to severe winter weather. He rented us his home the same day we called. The woman that helped with the reservation was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful as well. When we arrived we were very surprised at how lovely the home was decorated. We loved the library! The house is open, but has a very comfortable feel to it. I was very pleased that on such short notice, on my part. The home was stocked with cold drinks, snacks, spices and fresh linens. The beds and living area furniture are very comfortable! I loved the huge window in the living area, as you can sit on the comfortable couch at night and look at the stars. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking! One of the things I loved most about this house is the absolute quiet! I live outside a very large city. It was so nice to sit outside and not hear sirens and road noise! It is very relaxing! The photos do not do the house justice. If you have a chance stay at this home. You will leave feeling relaxed and refreshed! Thank you again for your hospitality and making our get away a wonderful experience! We will see you again soon!

We were looking for a quiet getaway for ourselves and our two dogs (German pointers), and we found it. The house is wonderful (the pictures are accurate) with plenty of room, very comfortable furniture in the living room, and a very comfortable bed in the master bedroom. We cooked two meals in the well stocked kitchen (all of the pots, pans, and utensils that you would need are there). In regards to the outdoors, it was perfect for us. The views are wonderful and the size of the property was more than enough for our dogs to run and burn off their energy. In dealing with the owners, Nelson is wonderful to deal with, and he provides you with a guide that gives you any information that you would need (restaurant recommendations, site seeing advice, even how to operate the T.V.). We would definitely rent this house again, and if you are going to visit the Fossil Rim Park, this rental is just down the street.

This home is decorated in impeccable style and with all the modern comforts of home, if not better! They do allow pets and provide a kennel. However, if you don;t like pets, there is no evidence of any ever being there since they clean the home so well. The kitchen is great with a gas top range to cook on and plenty of refrigerator space so you can bring your own food for some meals. They provide snacks and sodas complimentary with your rental. There is a sleep numbers bed with excellent linens in the Master BR and two day beds with a double bed in a secondary bedroom up stairs. The a/C Works like a dream! The owners, Nelson and CJ have a gorgeous secluded property here...it is a must see. Our kiddos take their air rifles, bb guns and air soft pistols to shoot tin cans. Don't let the secluded location fool you! The property is about a 4 minute drive from Fossil Rim and the view is spectacular as you drive up the hills. You can easily lunch at the Fossil Rim Cafe and enjoy the petting zoo and over look area to see the giraffes for free! There are tons of wildlife just roaming on the property...deer and hummingbirds are a daily occurrence and the star gazing at night is out of this world. It is a 7 minute drive into town to dine at Hollywood and Vine (Live music on the weekends...excellent time!) or a 15 minute drive to Loco Coyote our favorite BBQ joint in town with beer by the pitchers and the pig out platter for 2 that can feed 4+. Dinosaur Valley is a 20 minutes drive tops and don't forget to check the Sommervill expo center website for weekend events such as the Riflemen's competition or the Rodeo. Many of those events are free and provide fun Western entertainment for families. If you are diving in from FTW, it is only 1 hour 20 minutes to the property. The home is just exceptional and If you have not been to Glen Rose, go! This is a fabulous, quaint town with rolling hills and gorgeous views! Staying at this property is a must! Nelson provides you with a detailed, multipaged "personalized for you" booklet for the property with all the eating and shopping locations as well as many other details. Everything was sparkly clean and there were plenty of snacks on hand for us and the kiddos when we arrived (and coffee which is essential!) The beds were so comfortable and the rooms stayed nice and dark for good sleeping and napping. We especially enjoyed the pamphlet sent by the owners which included a list of recommended restaurants as well as activities. This was our "go to" and all recommendations were great. Our kids brought their shovels and pails and did lots of exploring and digging at this property. We certainly hope to return to this relaxing retreat!

    Perfect for a family getaway

My family (two kids: 6 and 2) stayed at Nelson and CJ's home for a second spring break in a row. Please see my review from last year for additional details. As with last year, we had a wonderful visit. The home's many amenities and thoughtful comforts make it so much easier to pack for (you don't have to bring mustard, paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, or sippy cups!) and relax during your stay (do laundry whenever you want! they have dvds for the kids and a nice game selection!). Other homes we have stayed in had a locked owner's pantry that had all the items that you would need to cook but that would be expensive to buy for a couple of meals (pepper, olive oil, pam, condiments, etc.), but Nelson and CJ generously share all the things they keep around with their guests and provide snacks and sodas. Nelson and CJ also allow access to their laundry facilities and a well stocked guest toiletry supply. Remembering that from last year, we were able to eliminate a whole duffel bag of stuff that we would usually have to cart to the property and back home.

Glen Rose kept us plenty entertained with its parks and bike riding options. The expansive property and porch gave my kids more freedom than they are used to having to be outside doing chalk or biking the gravel road unsupervised. It is an easy run into a nice supermarket, and there are a lot of free entertainment options close to town. The Big Rocks Park and adjacent large playscape were particular favorites.

Also, Nelson and CJ are warm and personable hosts, which sets the experience apart from other rentals. We hope they pop in an visit us when they come to Austin. I can't say I have felt that level of fondness for any of the other owners we have worked with.

We spent 5 days over Christmas, 2012, at this stunningly beautiful Texas ranch and were enchanted with the home. Hubby and I have enjoyed 33 wonderful Christmases together, but Christmas at this ranch gets top billing. Our 4 grown children and l8-month-old grandson concur!

Christmas, to us, is about faith, food, fellowship and fun. The ranch setting was picturesque and serene---exactly the respite we were seeking from busy careers in Dallas, Austin, Oklahoma City, and Washington, DC. Ranch owners Nelson and CJ anticipated and exceeded everything on our wish list. There was a lovely 9' Christmas tree, festive wreaths at the gate, and Christmas decorations scattered throughout the home. The hosts were keenly funny and exceptionally kind, providing great ideas for our entertainment and enjoyment of the area.

We shopped Glen Rose's boutiques, enjoyed several restaurants and visited Fossil Rim Wildlife Park and Dinosaur State Park. A powerful early Christmas thunderstorm beat against the metal roof and lit up the sky---both awesome and inspiring to witness through the great room's massive windows.

The kitchen was fully stocked with all necessities for roasting a turkey and baking Christmas cut-out cookies. The welcome basket of snacks and soft drinks was enjoyed by all of us. We REALLY appreciated the luxurious linens, the steamy showers, the plush towels, and the comfortable furniture. The whole place felt like HOME.

Certainly this was a 5/5 star vacation for us. Many thanks to the owners/hosts. We'll be back!

The kitchen is great for cooking and overlooks the great room. The house is about one mile down the county road from the Fossil Rim overlook which has a free children's petting zoo, gift shop and a lunch restaurant with an incredible view overlooking the giraffes in the park. We took advantage of the proximity to Fossil Rim and did the full tour where the kids had a ball. I can't say enough about the owners. The house was perfect and they even left out some snacks for us.
